Or: 2B accidentally travels back in time to the start of the story - and just as accidentally gets her consciousness stuck in a sword now wielded by A2. What seemed at first to her like a few minor changes rapidly spirals into a new timeline wholly out of her control, especially as her younger self responds to the changes she's making, and her enemies take note of how the world isn't developing as it should...
But, hey, at least they're not going to get the same problems as last time...?
2B's going to need a lot of help to dig everyone out of this. Fortunately, A2's (somewhat beligerently) taken up her cause, and she has more allies than she thinks.
Or: A fix-it retelling of canon (based centrally in the anime), though the road is far from smooth, and things get worse before they get better. Also there's robot philosophy, exploration + expansion of canon esp the Executioner program, and slow burn disaster queers.

Summary
A2 joined these trials because she was bored, and to get away from the sand and wind. She kept going because they were actually kind of fun.
So why are these machines declaring her their king?!?! Rude >:(
Or: A2 goes through the Trials of Sand, gets herself appointed King of Facade, and somehow finds herself in Big Sister mode to a lot more people than she'd ever thought possible. She didn't want a command. But she ended up with one anyways.
And - once she finishes complaining about it - she refuses to fail at this one.
