Zoey hummed, doing another turn, another scan of their surroundings.
"Y'think so?"
Rumi shifted her hands in a stretch–Zoey saw Mira's scowl harden, grip tightening on her gokdo–as the woman straightened her arms over her head. The hem of her crop-top lifted slightly, a sliver of pale flesh flashing in Zoey's periphery, teasing just above the waistline of her pants.
Zoey definitely didn't stare.
Too much, anyways.
"I know so," Rumi answered after a moment, shaking her arms out. "Spiro wanted you dead."
And then she shot Zoey a smirk, and that look was all tongue and teeth and promise.
"But I've got more use for you alive."

Summary
When she looked up, she saw Rumi and Zoey standing at another car, doors open. They both got in without any lingering gazes and Mira started to breathe again, though her eyes could see Rumi's tense face in the side mirror.
"I saw them talking to you. Who were they?" Her partner's voice was warm, curious, inviting Mira to share.
Her wrist throbbed like an alarm, and Mira replied, "Don't know. Helped me fill out the paperwork. Didn't get their names."
"How kind of them." Honey in her voice. It made the scrap of paper hidden in Mira's sleeve itch her skin.
Or, Mira meets two women in the emergency room and tries to pass her injuries off as an accident. They see right through her. They become a life line.

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” the girl said, her voice cold and flat.
Rumi stepped forward without thinking, pressing the flimsy paper napkin against the slick black leather covered in her lunch.
“I—I’m so sorry,” she stammered, every syllable tripping over the last. “I didn’t mean—I wasn’t looking and—”
“You didn’t mean to walk straight?” the vampire snapped, voice slicing clean through her apology. “Or use eyes that work?”
Up close, the vampire’s presence hit like a cold front.
Terrifying, her instincts offered.
Beautiful, her brain added unhelpfully.
And here she was… rubbing at her chest.
The motion was clumsy and awkward—her brain screaming at her to help clean while her hands were busy doing exactly the kind of contact you’d never want to initiate with a stranger.

Summary
Zoey and Mira are at the end of their rope waiting for Celine to finally track down this third and final member of their hunting trio before they can make their debuts as idols and start to actually be effective against the forces of evil in their world. They decide to blow off some steam at a club in the city but run into trouble when they come toe to toe with a demon unlike any they'd faced before.
She's strong and clearly very powerful, but when they draw their weapons, she does something no other demon has when faced with the opportunity to try and take down the legendary demon hunters.

Pre-reveal Rumi, hiding both her patterns and her wants, loves her girls in whatever way she can until she's free (whether that means shielding Mira and Zoey in fights or pretending to be something she's not). She just has to hold out until the Honmoon’s golden. Straightforward enough, right?

In hindsight, it should have been obvious. The way Rumi refused to go to the bathhouse, her bizarre relationship with Celine, this whole thing with the Saja Boys? Mira prided herself on reading people, and she felt stupid for not seeing it sooner. The pieces were all there, just waiting to be put together.
Rumi was gay.
The night after the joint signing with the Saja Boys, Mira went to confront Rumi about her ongoing weird behavior. Instead of letting hurt feelings drive the conversation, Mira took a minute to try and figure out what might be wrong. Unfortunately, she came to the completely wrong conclusion.
Misunderstandings ensue. They talk it out.

And, look—Zoey doesn’t mean to do it. She’s honestly pretty surprised at herself. Between Mira, who will only orgasm under pretty specific circumstances, and Rumi, who could probably climax if you just call her a Good Girl and breathe on her right, Zoey has always sat somewhere comfortably around the middle. She’s never had to work especially hard for it, but it’s never completely snuck up on her, either. It must be the heat from the bathhouse getting to her, or the three hours of burning anticipation, or the almost-two weeks of not having both her girls in her arms.

The client hadn’t really requested anything at all; their emails had been almost overly polite, if not jarringly formal, and had selected only the most vanilla options on the questionnaire she provided. Certainly a far cry from the standard practices of her usual clientele, but this one had paid upfront and picked this expensive hotel, and Mira’s fees are dear enough on their own that she had been coloured intrigued.
Mira takes a left down the hallway after leaving the elevator and finds herself at the door to the room. She doesn’t steel herself—doesn’t need to. She can handle anything. Has handled most things. Mira swipes the keycard and lets herself in.
The person sitting on the bed is probably the last thing she expects.
In which Mira is a professional, Rumi is socially inept, and Zoey is also there. Let's hope nobody catches feelings.
