Summary
He unfolded the paper, wondering if there was any other message written inside. It had clearly been a map, once upon a time, the sea smearing the inked lines of navigation and fading away the colors of seas and islands and the Red Line, but maybe Ace had drawn out a schematic for the new 'water system' or for their escape ship.
Instead, he found a drawing, a pair of humanoid bodies, a little distorted like the paper had been braced against a knee instead of a flat surface while he drew, the proportions a little out of whack, but Deuce could definitely see the shape of Ace's orange hat, the curves and swirls of his mask over a smiling mouth, the posture of the Ace-figure screaming adventure on a sketchy little boat that was clearly too small to hold two people.
He snorted, felt his lips beginning to curl in a bewildered smile at the little label above their smiling, silly drawn faces, Me + U. He had no idea what Ace had been thinking, drawing something like this, had no idea what would have possessed a pirate captain to doodle across the first scrap of paper they'd found and leave it for Deuce.

“You’re so pretty, held open and waiting like this, too. Anything you want, Deu?”
He kept moving, sliding the pad of his thumb back and forth over Deuce’s tongue, watching as Deuce’s blush darkened another shade before he whined again, squirming a little and drawing Ace’s attention to the leaking head of his cock, bobbing slightly against his stomach and reminding Ace of just how hard he was becoming in the process of teasing Deuce into riled up desperation.
He pulled his hand away from Deuce’s chin, watched as Deuce tried to follow the withdrawal, unable to catch his thumb between his lips and teeth and hold him in place where he wanted him.

Summary
Ace was warm, kissed him and touched him and rocked up into Deuce steadily. Ace was alive, but Deuce was still trembling, his hand pressed heavy on Ace’s chest over his heart, the other sunk into the pillow next to Ace’s head, his wrist lightly pressed against Ace’s neck.

It’s like nostalgia, he thinks. It’s like deja vu, and maybe a touch of vertigo, like having his legs swept out from under him and falling, falling, breathless and weightless.

The thread looped around his finger stretches ever outward, further and further and further still, and he wonders just how many islands he’ll see, how many years of sailing and adventuring and writing he’ll experience, before he finds what lies on the other end.

Summary
"I'm just taking a look," Ace said, waving a dismissive hand, flashing a reassuring grin over his shoulder.
Deuce wasn't particularly reassured. That grin had prefaced all sorts of misadventures and incidents and injuries over the time they'd known each other, at least for Deuce to witness the aftermath of, though he'd been dragged into a fair few as well. He could just see an emergency room visit for animal bites or scratches in their future.

Summary
"This okay? Or should I let you sleep?"
"You're asking now?" Deuce asked, arching an eyebrow but not able to bite back a smile, feeling color rise in his cheeks against his will. Ace snorted, giving him a sheepish smile as he leaned down to brush their noses together briefly.
"Couldn't help it, you're too pretty."
His face burned, and he rolled his eyes, turning his face back toward his pillow like it would somehow stop Ace from seeing the increasing blush. Ace laughed, breath ghosting against his cheek as he pressed kisses to his cheekbone, along the space where the lower edge of his mask usually covered, tracing the highest point of his blush.
"Well, you are," he said, smiling when Deuce narrowed his eyes at him threateningly. “All relaxed, no mask. Especially after the last few days.”
A suggestive eyebrow waggle, and he snorted, tugging on Ace’s hair sharply in retribution. “I seem to recall having my mask off when we actually made it back to the ship.”
“Oh, sure,” Ace agreed easily, shifting to mouth along Deuce’s jaw instead. “But then you were wearing my hat, and while that was very hot, it’s nice seeing you relaxed like this in nothing at all.”

Summary
"This is nice, right?" he asked, voice pitched low, but he was close enough for Deuce to still hear the murmured question, breath ghosting against his ear and neck.
"Better than the shows the crew usually puts on," Deuce said, thick around the choking urge to kiss Ace again. His partner laughed softly, tilting his head to cast a glance toward the front of the bar, where the tables were a little more crowded and the woman was still singing, though the tune was different and Deuce couldn’t really remember when the song changed.
"That's true," Ace admitted, grinning when he looked back at Deuce, the expression shifting into more of a smirk when their eyes met. "I was more thinking the dark corner and no one recognizing us, though."

Summary
That little hint of an accent never really did anything for Deuce, though. He’d had far more embarrassing, revealing reactions to Ace’s different tones over the years, but he’d long gotten used to the trace accent. But if he imagined Ace with a heavier accent, or speaking another language, this island’s language springing to mind purely from his recent exposure to it—the imagined purr of a whisper in his ear sent a shiver down his spine, and he barely stopped himself from visibly shivering as well.
Anna smirked at him, wide and self-satisfied, clearly reading him better than he would really like, and Kimi stuck her tongue out at him, slapping a handful of berri onto the bartop for whatever penalty losing the argument left her, grumbling to herself all the while.
"Thinking of Ace talking pretty to you, Baby Doc?" Anna asked, sipping victoriously at the cocktail that was slid her way. "Maybe we should pull him aside with that dictionary, teach him a few phrases. Gemm, any sign of something along the lines of 'Let me take you up against the nearest wall, my dearest darlingest love'...?"

Summary
The biggest challenge about coming into the sleeping quarters late was trying to find a spot to stretch out and actually get some sleep. Most of the crew sprawled out or piled together wherever they liked, sharing or stealing blankets and pillows easily. It was something Ace and Deuce had done, back when it was just the two of them and they’d curled up for warmth or squeezed into whatever miniscule sleeping space was available together.
Curling around each other on Sixis in a slightly desperate bid to keep Deuce warm and comfortable had left its mark, and Ace considered it again as his eyes finally landed on Deuce’s huddled form at the far end of the room, curled into a tight ball and wrapped in a thick orange blanket, cocooned against the sea chill seeping in through Spadille’s hull.

Summary
He shakes his head in reply--he isn't getting anywhere near that chaos if he can avoid it--and smiles when Ace pouts at him from across the bar. It’s sweet, the offer of inclusion, and the thought of sharing a drink with Ace, tucked close together at the bar or in Deuce's current corner table, is enough to soften his smile from something amused to a dangerous sort of wistful, a rush of warmth in his ears and cheeks, and he can see the pout Ace is sending him waver with his own returned smile.

Summary
Deuce's breath sucked in sharply, eyes blinking open with a little more awareness than before even as his hips twitched forward to press more fully against his. He smiled around Deuce's nipple, falling completely still and waiting to see what the waking reaction would be, watching and silent because he wasn't going to be the one to break the soft silence that blanketed the morning.

"Good swing. You box or something?"
"No," Deuce replied slowly, distantly wondering just what the hell was going on and why no one was angrier about any of this.
"Damn. Solid connection. Careful with your wrist next time."
Was he getting constructive criticism from the guy he'd punched??

Summary
"Deu," Ace huffed, thigh twitching in the barest flinch at the slight tickle of Deuce's breath against his skin. "Deu, you've already given plenty of attention to my freckles, come on..."
"Yeah, on your face and your shoulders and your hands," Deuce said, and Ace briefly worried he would continue listing out all the places where freckles clustered over his body, each spot known and well attended and memorized by Deuce's eyes, fingers, lips over their time together. “I didn’t know you had freckles here.”
It’s nothing amazing, there’s no reason for Deuce’s voice to be so soft and reverent, but it’s something he’s always done when it comes to laying attention over each little spot on Ace’s cheeks or shoulders, familiar and lovely and enough to make Ace’s heart skip a little at the same time.
Tongue-traced lines against his skin, connecting the dots from freckle to freckle, and he shivered again, whining as Deuce's wrist twisted slightly, changing the angle of the hand moving over his cock, drawing Ace's attention back to the fact that they'd been right in the middle of something before Deuce had gotten distracted by inner thigh freckles, of all things.

Summary
Ace was clearly impatient, dark eyebrows pinched, eyes narrowed at Deuce, the hand in his hair holding a little too tight, tension winding through him with every one of Deuce's slow, careful movements. Deuce grinned back at him, ignoring his own tension, the desire curling through his belly to really move, the desire to lean back down and make it so Ace was feeling almost too much again.
So of course Ace had to open his mouth.
"You're holding back on me," he said, and there wasn't any hint begging or whining anymore, his voice gone challenging and sultry all in one. He was still watching Deuce, the hand in his hair tugging him a little closer, until he could nearly feel the sharp shape of Ace's hungry smile when he spoke again. "Don't."
