Rivalries weren't created through small casualties. George Russell knew that well.
Out of all the people who claimed to hate Verstappen's guts, he was the one who had the most right to do so.
Unfortunately, hate sells, and after an explosive ad with Red Bull went viral, they were brought together again and again.
It didn't matter how many hours they spent together; George couldn't stand the sight of him, and Verstappen never got less insufferable.

Max Verstappen hated liars. For all that he was, for all the accusations the world threw his way, he, at least, never pretended to be something he was not.
Clearly, it was not something George Russell worried about.
And Max didn't care, didn't have time to. Not with the World Cup upon them or the approaching new season of La Liga.Except now it was his problem too, Russell's pristine reputation tied tightly with Max's work, and many of his sponsors.
At least, he didn't have to pretend to stand the prick. No, people didn't seem to mind that they hated each other.
Good.
Hatred was all Max was willing to offer.

Max’s mind roared, and the thought was so loud and intrusive that George physically stiffened.
It’s freezing out here. Everyone looks like a corpse. Lando looks grey, I feel blue, but his lips are bright fucking red. They look so soft. Look at how they move when he talks. Why am I looking at his mouth? Fuck, I want to take my thumb and press it right against his bottom lip just to see if the colour changes. I want to bite it. Why do I want to bite him? What is wrong with me?
Or, a mind-reading fic set in the canon universe. George inherited his mother's quirk of mind-reading, and it was not helping that the only thought he could not block was Max's.

George pauses when he notices his hips.
He winces at the sight.
The heat from the shower had melted into the old scars. The calloused patches burn against the paleness of his usually unexposed skin, presenting an alarming contrast. Angry red lines mark his hipbones. They look like a particularly nasty rope burn—one that tore open flesh. He runs his hands over the uneven texture.
George scrubs harder, bruisingly.
For a second, hysterically, he thinks of Toto Wolff.
He presses the pads of his fingers into the area. It’s as if he clawed hard enough, he could erase the marks from his body. He knows it’s silly. Regardless, he still tries. On bad days, George tries until the blood coagulates under his nails.
OR
Max to Mercedes is announced during summer break. George is left rotting in a team that has already forsaken him for the rest of the season. He can only crawl back to Williams, utterly abandoned by Toto, but still desperate to prove himself to the older man. He finds unlikely solace in someone he should hate the most…
Inspired by the toxicity of this season so far.

George refuses to have a front-row seat to someone else’s success once again.Here. This is what you did to me. This is what I became. This is what I get out of you today.
George grabs Max’s hand. Squeezes once, a signal. Max looks at him, questioning. His hand goes still in his. For a second, George thinks he might leave, might turn around and walk away and that will be the end of it. But instead, Max steps forward and kisses him. Shoves him up against the wall with so much force George’s head hurts.
He can’t even breathe as Max kisses him, tasting faintly of champagne as he shoves his tongue down George’s throat, hands fighting to keep a grip on George’s shirt, undoing the buttons to pop them open. He tears one right off, clattering against the wall and out over the floor, sound lost underneath their rushed breathing.
It almost doesn’t feel like Max, grabbing at him, pulling him close, swallowing his gasps. It feels like something feral is clawing out. It feels like victory.
