Two words. That tone. Arousal and trepidation rush through her, stealing her breath with them. She straightens instinctively from her slouch, chin up, her eyes wide as saucers. The danger claxons blaring in her head are of no help whatsoever because she's not a complete idiot; she knows when she's in trouble. A flash of red, easy conversation over a game of pool in her memory. Shit, she thinks, the missive from the council flashing in her mind. Maybe this is my fault after all.
Vi loves her wife and will talk everyone's ear off about her, even seven years into their relationship. Her wife thinks this is a problem. Her wife also thinks this is adorable, but that's beside the point.

Licking her lips in anticipation, Vi began to fold the book down, ready to get her action.
“Ah ah ah!” Caitlyn reprimanded her, pulling her hand back. “Eyes on your paper.”
Vi snorted, erupting into a grin. “Cupcake, as if you could ever—“
Her scoff died in her throat as she met Caitlyn’s expectant gaze, three things rapidly dawning on her: That Caitlyn was dead serious, that she had played the long game, and that this was never about story-time. This afternoon’s entertainment was to drive her fucking nuts, and there was nothing she could do about it… But read.
“Finish the page…” she murmured archly, “And I’ll finish you.”
It's been ten days since the war, ten days since Vi nearly lost it all. Her whole heart lays safe in a bedroom, recovering from her injuries. Vi's brought the entertainment to keep the ghosts away as Caitlyn grows stronger, but Caitlyn has orchestrated her own fun for the both of them.

Caitlyn is twenty-three years old and standing in front of a jail cell.
It’s cold this far down, and she feels it on the tip of her nose. Yet the look the inmate before her gives burrows beneath her skin and into her bones, and she fails to fight a blush.
Not from attraction, but because no one, especially a stranger, has ever looked at Caitlyn like they hope to inconvenience every waking moment of her life. Like the mere sight of Caitlyn in her pristine uniform makes the inmate want to throw up right on her shoes. Like the features in her face, in her walk, in her voice, don’t give away who she is. This far below the surface, Caitlyn’s surprised if anything from above even matters.
“Who the hell are you?” the inmate asks, no, demands, and it sends a shiver down Caitlyn’s spine.

Cait’s chest is warm again for a new reason, and then all of her is warm. Vi is still gripping the towel, so Cait tries to counteract her tension with a soft kiss to her forehead. “You can do it again,” she whispers against Vi’s skin. “If you’d like to.” Vi’s breathing catches, and Cait thinks she feels a slight nod. Maybe.

A silence stretches for a few seconds.
"Ekko asked me to move in with the Firelights."
Caitlyn thinks that if Vi had not just said that she loved her — that she would've broken right there.

“What do you need?” Vi whispers, cupping her face and making Cait look her in the eye. Caitlyn's heart starts to race even as she holds what she wants, what she needs right now, on her tongue, biting her cheek with how badly she doesn’t want to say it out loud.
Her silence or the look on her face must speak volumes. This time both of Vi’s eyebrows rise in surprise as she follows Caitlyn’s train of thought. And if Cait didn’t know better she’d say Vi is blushing faintly as her eyes dart around the office.
“Here?’ Vi chuckles a little, breathless and amused by Cait’s urgency.
“Is that okay?” Right now, Cait is desperate enough to ask.
Caitlyn just needs to feel something good. And Vi is the absolute best thing in her life right now. Maybe Cait shouldn’t ask. Maybe it's just more selfishness. More greed on her part. But Vi is here and so perfectly fit against her. Everything Cait wants and needs, so she can’t deny herself. She never could.

Vi visits a very stressed out Caitlyn in her office, and they definitely have emotional sweet but not exactly gentle communicative sex. This is the first time they've had sex since the bunker/cell.

“It’s your job to listen, not mine,” Vi retorts.
Caitlyn blinks, taken aback. Then she smiles, ever so slowly. It moves mountains, tames beasts. Vi pauses, her ribs tightening around her lungs as a mirage unfurls behind her eyelids. She can suddenly imagine herself a sunny, bright new life over the mountainside.
“Oh. You're trouble,” Caitlyn teases. Her smile wraps a fist around Vi’s chest and squeezes her lungs even harder.
Vi swallows.
Vi doesn't need to meet anyone new.
But hey, when a volcano erupts, no force on Earth can stop it.
