Sam laughed bright but quiet. “You asked them to make us a dream, in our own house?” There was no judgement present in his voice just a soft curiosity.
Darlin’ grinned, self-conscious but wolf-like all the same. “Well, we don’t have to stay here but I figured it would be an easy starting point.
Sam grunted happily, “I have to say, I was not expecting this. Where are we visitin’ Darlin?” He stepped closer, a comforting gesture.
Darlin’ signalled towards the door. “Outside.”
“In the garden? Well, I can’t.” Darlin’ caught the exact moment Sam realised and they caught the exact moment that faded away.
“I can’t.” He repeated, unsure.Unwilling to dare hope until it was confirmed.
“You can.” Darlin’ whispered

Gabriel Shaw raised his son in this fire house, in this office as Captain. And Asher’s dad was his lieutenant. And Milo’s dad was the beat cop who would divert his route to clear a scene when he heard the 10-19 was on a call. The house was fill of lineage, full of families of firefighters and their sons.
It was a lineage that you weren’t a part of.

Firefighter/EMT au. Darlin is still the black sheep. Quinn is still a problem. Sam is still a healer, of sorts. He still heals them, in a way.

Alexis makes another play for Sam after finding out he is leaving the House of Solaire. David intercepts. William cleans up his mess, fifteen years late.
William Solaire is not a kind man.

The final confrontation with Quinn finally goes down. And so does Darlin. Now Sam’s holding bedside vigil, waiting for the moment they wake up, refusing to leave their side until they do.
All that magic poured into their body ends up having an interesting side effect when they finally do wake up.
