After the events of Season 3, Hawkins thinks the nightmare is over.
Starcourt Mall is gone. The Mind Flayer is gone. The town is trying very hard to pretend everything is normal again.
But Robin and Steve know better.
Because they were never rescued from the Russian base when everyone thought they were.
They were found days later,different.
Now Robin moves faster than anyone can see, a blur of motion that can cross a field in seconds. Steve carries something far stranger, strange red energy bending around his hands whenever he loses control.Three weeks after Starcourt, the Party is trying to deal with monsters, trauma, and the small problem that two of their friends might now be the most dangerous things in Hawkins.And Robin thinks this is all extremely funny.

“Will Byers?”
Will glances around, as if there is another Will Byers in their vicinity. He manages a small smile. “Yeah, it’s- uh. It’s me.”
Mike rushes forward, and all he can think is holy shit, Will is alive, as he’s throwing his arms around the other boy and tugging him in for a crushing hug. It isn’t until Will is secure, nestled–maybe a bit stiffly–in his arms, that Mike starts crying.
“I thought you were dead,” Mike murmurs, muffled by Will’s jacket. He sniffles. “I thought- we- they told us you were dead.”
Or, Will was never found in S1, but survives in the Upside Down until 1987 due to his powers and connection with Vecna. Cue Mike, an ill-timed trip to the Upside Down, and a lot of feelings.
