But when you close your eyes, when you fall asleep, are you still the same person as you were before? When you consciousness blinks, do You continue?
Akechi Goro knows what his goal is. He knows who he wants dead, knows how he's going to do it, knows that every stepping stone destroyed taking him there is worth the end result. Nothing can make him falter in his quest. Nothing has, and nothing ever will.
And yet, rest is a necessity.
The gray-eyed boy he sees behind his eyelids cannot take his hand -
reach him across the rapids -
pull him out of hell.The silver-eyed boy he sees across the counter cannot convince him -
give him an exit -
love him enough to change their fates.But seeing him matters. Regardless of their outcomes.

Summary
"Don't go," Akira outright begs, tilting his chin down to bury his face in the warm crook between Akechi's shoulder and neck. Warm and undeniably alive, Akira despairs internally, something he'll never be again if tomorrow is successful.
"Don't.. Don't make this harder than it has to be, Akira." Goro whispers back, his resolve firm but voice quivering. The words go unspoken, as they often do, but Akira reads between the blurred lines and ink stains of red and understands immediately. His heart sinks impossibly further into his chest, and he clutches the one boy he'd destroy the world for closer.
How ironic, that he would finally find a reason to live only after he had died.
Or, 2/2 angst in the big 2026 for Akechi's birthday. Found in my drafts from 2024 and never posted.

“You know,” Olruggio says, roughly. He doesn’t move to take Qifrey’s hand again. “You know. You can’t not know, Qifrey.”
Qifrey just looks at him. “I do.”
The rain continues falling.
(And so Olruggio forgets. And he inevitably figures it out again, because of course he does; and he inevitably chooses to forget again, and again, and again, because his heart is always the same. The story is always the same. Like a tale from under a silverwood tree, like a myth from the days of old, not so much tied by the constraints of the narrative so much as being narrative itself. Antigone must bury her brother. Iphigenia must be put to death. At a thousand turns, in a thousand ways, Orpheus must turn, and he must look, again, and again.
And Olruggio forgets.)
There is an old story about a witch and a silverwood tree.

Summary
Goro Akechi walks across the creaking, dusty floor, disturbing an errant spider and disrupting a late sunbeam. For a moment he just looks at the figure on the bed, and then he exhales, walks to the unused chair in the corner. Brushes off the dust, moves it in front of the bed, facing Akira. Sits down. Watches.
(Akira sleeps. Akechi visits.)
