Derek frowned. “Did you murder someone? I know good places where we can dump the body, no one would ever find it.”
“I didn’t, but I love you for being so supportive in helping me cover something like that up.” Some of Stiles’ seriousness cracked a little, a smile forming before he managed to get himself back under control.

“What the fuck!” Stiles flailed away from hot lifeguard man, one leg still caught beneath the other’s tail—his fucking tail! Like, a real tail!—before he managed to pull it free and scramble back.
The man—merman? Fish-person!—sat up then as Stiles scrambled backwards, levelling him with an unimpressed look and letting some of his weight rest against his hands behind himself on the sand.
Stiles pointed at his face, then his tail, then back at his face. “You’re a—you’re a—you’re a—”
“You’re welcome,” hot lifeguard merman said, rolling his eyes and shifting so that his tail was bent and out towards the side, sitting up properly and eying Stiles with a critical eye. “You hit your head pretty hard. Are you okay?”
“Clearly not!” Stiles shouted. “I am obviously hallucinating!”

“Talia was just telling me an interesting story,” his dad informed him. Stiles didn’t have the nerve to glance over at him, because he knew no matter how much he argued, the proof was all there. The wolves had found him, Parrish had picked him up on the side of the road, he had a fucking picture on his phone. He was screwed. No point in arguing, all it’d do is piss his father off even more.
“You don’t say,” Stiles offered slowly. “What uh—you know, I like stories. Is it a uh, good one?”
“It seems to be a matter of opinion,” Talia said with another kind smile. “I hear you had quite the night last night.”
Okay, time to cut his losses. He was already fucked, all he could do was apologize and hope she didn’t press for him to get fined and arrested. Given he was her husband’s friend’s son, he had high hopes.
“I’m really sorry,” Stiles blurted out. “It was stupid and-and irresponsible and just—I am so sorry. I shouldn’t have crossed into your territory. I should’ve known better, I do know better! It was a complete lapse in judgement and I am just—I am so sorry.”

Summary
Detective Isabelle Lightwood stands in the middle of a small but picturesque park. It’s an island, her sanctuary, smack in the middle of bustling Brooklyn.
Birds are singing, the sun is beating down and she’s thoroughly enjoying her lunch break from work. It’s almost perfect. Almost.
She inhales the fresh air, licks her glossed lips, pops her sunglasses on and ignores the honking sounds of traffic lapping around her, threatening to disturb her tranquility.
As she looks around, with a sigh, she contemplates what her life has come to and she briefly thinks back to a few months previous, to where this all started.
58th Precinct of the New York PD was home to some of the Cities most established and accomplished Detectives. Well, according to the New York Times latest police review, at least.
She’s currently debating the validity of that statistic as she watches her partner of three months, Detective Magnus Bane, pull her brother of twenty two years, Detective Alec Lightwood, out of a glistening duck pond.
Alec gets to his feet shouting profanities, eyes blazing, wet, dark hair plastered to his head and Magnus is bent double laughing, with his hands on his hips.

Alec stops in his tracks, dumbstruck. This can’t be his new partner. He’d built up what he thought he’d look like in his mind the entire weekend but this guy....
Alec peers down, frowning at the man. He’s shorter than him, but then most people are. The guy is built like a dancer, long legs, tight body and he shifts almost imperceptibly from foot to foot, barely there movements that nod to an easy balance and grace.
He’s wearing rings on both hands, piercings running up both ears. He’s wearing a dark purple shirt underneath a light, velvet, black duster jacket. His black hair has a streak of deep purple through it and it stands tall on his head. Most bizarrely of all, the guys eyes are ringed with a smudge of black liner.
He should look entirely out of place here but no-one’s even giving him a second look. Alec isn’t sure how because the guy’s drawing him in like a magnet. He can’t take his eyes off his face. He’s beautiful.

“I’m really sorry, can you be my boyfriend?” Derek asked breathlessly, panic on his face and looking seconds away from losing his shit.
Stiles didn’t even have the chance to reply, because the second he saw crazy lady walk into the coffee shop, he just immediately leaned over the table and planted a kiss right on Derek’s lips. The other man seemed startled, but he recovered quickly and brought one hand up to press against Stiles’ cheek.
He made sure to keep the kiss short, and relatively chaste, because this was all for show and he didn’t want to make Derek more uncomfortable than he already was.

He’s tall, as tall as Derek is, but where Derek’s shoulders are wide, this man is lean strength. Stiles rests his cittern against the corner, gives a jaunty wave to the room, and begins walking in Derek’s direction.
Derek stops looking and buries his face in his pint glass, willing the other man to go away.
Stiles hesitates near the empty chair. “Mind if I join you?”
“Yes,” Derek growls and wishes he could flash his red alpha eyes at this stranger to make him leave.
Looking from afar was one thing. Up close, Stiles’s eyes look like whiskey in firelight and he smells like citrus and woodsmoke. Derek’s wolf is going crazy inside him and he pushes down his reaction to this man. There’s something else, something other, but there are plenty of people who have residual magic of shifters in their family. It leaves a trace, but is often indistinct.
Stiles grins, pulls out the chair, and sits down. “Great.”

Boyd’s gaze cut briefly to Derek, then back to Stiles. “I see you’ve met Derek.”
“Oh yeah. We are now very close friends,” Stiles said, turning to grin at the Alpha.
He didn’t look impressed. Also like he was trying to figure out which parts of Stiles were the squishiest and easiest to eat through. That was concerning, he didn’t like that.
