Vegas is… okay.
Most of his days are okay now. Some of them are good days. Some of them are great days.
On the okay days, he still gets tired a little too easily and sometimes clutches his side or his chest when Pete isn’t looking, but he’s fine. He’s happy.
On the good days, he cooks and goes on walks and he isn’t in pain.
On the great days, his stamina is endless and he can spend hours doing… various strenuous activities.
Pete likes Vegas’ great days.
But there are bad days, too. Terrible days. Days when Vegas just randomly proclaims that he wants to spend his day watching Netflix, only to fall asleep twenty minutes into the first episode. Well, if he’s lucky. He rarely makes it to ten.

It has been over a year since Vegas got shot, but he's still not back to his old self. What's worse, his body might never recover completely.
It makes Vegas angry. It scares him to death.
It scares him to the point that it makes him lash out at the person who loves him the most, the person who has stayed with him the entire time.

It had been a couple of weeks since his fall in the shower, and Vegas had been treating Pete so delicately—it was starting to get to Pete. Sure, it seemed like he was getting injured in more and more random events lately, but that didn’t mean that he was fragile. He had been a head bodyguard, after all, he was used to injuries happening all the time, plus, of course, he had Vegas, Vegas who liked hurting Pete and Pete who liked being hurt by Vegas. A cut, a few scrapes, some bruises—it was nothing. Pete wasn’t some toy that would break easily.

In a show of strength Pete already knew he had, he holds Pete with one arm while he strips off the condom and throws it in the nearest bin with the other.

It’s too vulnerable but Pete feels like he’s allowed to say it, safe and secure and in the privacy of Vegas’ office. He worries for a few quiet moments but Vegas just grins,
