“Um, Mister Flins isn’t moving. Or… responding. At all.” A tentative pause. “Is that normal?”
Shit.
Aether whirled around, and, at the sight of Flins crumpled on the ground, unmoving, his stomach dropped like a stone.

Summary
Here’s the thing: Lu Guang knows, objectively, that Cheng Xiaoshi loves his parents.
When Cheng Xiaoshi loves something—when he loves someone—he develops a blind spot. An unconscious calculation, more like, of how many times, how much, how deeply that person can hurt him before he can no longer find it in himself to forgive. For Cheng Xiaoshi, Lu Guang knows, that measure is infinite. Cheng Xiaoshi forgives like breathing.
Lu Guang is not so virtuous.
(or: with liu xiao and the saros folks out of the picture, lu guang has to figure out how to live without the benefit of foresight. or is it hindsight?)

Which is why a surprised but delighted smile slipped across his face at the sight that greeted him behind the tent-flaps. Both of the feared warriors were fast asleep, curled close together on the cot meant for one. They looked peaceful in a way neither of them ever did outside the realm of sweet oblivion.

Summary
It's another long day at the office, but Sephiroth shows up to change that.
__
Angeal forces himself to stay seated when he asks, “is everything alright?”
“Yes,” Sephiroth responds, but he won’t make eye contact. He looks somewhere around Angeal’s shoulder and the far corner of his desk.
“Are you sure..?”
“Yes.” Then he leans over and pulls the blinds closed and Angeal does not believe him.Bookmarked by B1rd_brained

Summary
“Kadaj,” Loz whined, sitting down beside him on his right. “Kadaj, it hurts.”
“What do you want me to do about it?”
“Kadaj,” Yazoo whined too. “You’re so mean…”
Stuck between both of them, he could do nothing but sit in his anger, knees close to his chest. Without a tail, he felt like he was always exposed from the back, unsteady on his feet. He hated not having it.

Summary
Eternal slumber was meant to be his atonement. He had failed to intervene, at possibly the most pivotal moment in time. Failed to stop Lucrecia. Failed to prevent the experiment. For his sins, he would no longer have any influence on the world.
Except, in his absence, arguably worse sins piled up.
Sephiroth’s madness. Jenova’s release. Meteor.
Isolation, as it happened, did not work as atonement. His lack of involvement hadn’t fixed anything.
He knew better, this time.

Summary
He wasn’t at all used to making this many choices, with so much freedom in the options, and he was finding it to be unbearably exhausting. He wanted this, yes; but every new thing that wasn’t quite what he wanted felt like a blow to his soul, draining his hope that he could function like the normal, independent person he wished he could be.
Genesis takes Sephiroth shopping for the first clothes he has ever picked out for himself. It doesn’t go quite as well as either of them had hoped.

Summary
He really did try to get it right, but it never seemed to be enough. He didn’t even really know where to start to fix this defect in him. How on earth was it so easy for everyone else? Perhaps he was just made to be alone. Some weapons were made with siblings, twin daggers alone together against the world, but not him—he was a lone katana, cold and distant from the start, folded in on himself a thousand times over and unable to reach out.
Sephiroth has trouble interacting normally with his new friends. After an unfortunate incident involving the labs, they discover why, and reassure him that they love him just the way he is.
