Summary
We jump into a quarantine-lifted Hawkins, sometime in late 1990. The consequences of the final battle with Vecna have left Will’s eyesight severely impaired.
Mike, a university student and nine-to-five'er ends up taking on the role of primary caregiver in he and Will's budding relationship, and with money given to them by the government, the two of them have moved into a nice one-story house in Mike's college town; only an hour or two away from Hawkins' while being a close enough drive to Mike's campus.
OR
Will is essentially blind. Mike is his caregiver. New tensions arise with their newfound dynamic and it puts a damper on their nonexistent sex-life. Messily, they work it out by bickering in front of all their family and friends at Christmas dinner.
