Eli didn't trust any of them.
Despite what people may think, Hawk did think things through. They had dreams and plans for the future. Being the LaRusso's new foster kid hadn't been on the agenda but Hawk's adaptable.
If it means keeping a lid on their true nature so they can finish high school and stay safe, it's a small price to pay.
Laying eyes on Demetri after parting ways in the most hurtful, painful way possible was also not part of the plan.

“Do you remember me?” There’s a gloating quality to this man’s voice, and Steven decidedly hates it. “Two years ago. Amsterdam. You ruined my entire operation in one night, but you made one mistake, Spector, you know that? You know what it was?”
“This is a rhetorical question, isn’t it?”
“It was fucking me—”
“Absolutely not,” Steven interrupts. “Marc’s standards are higher than that.”
His head gets snapped back for that, a swift punch to his jaw sending hot jolts of pain down his face. He is definitely going to bruise. It’s still kind of worth it.

There’s a third passenger using their body. For Steven, the gaps of missing time – and dealing with Marc’s poor coping skills - are bad enough. And then Marc seems to disappear entirely.
He takes stock of his body. Nothing broken, no blood on his hands. Small victories. He’s wearing one of Marc’s dark jackets but, more strangely, he’s got a flat cap on his head that he doesn’t recognize from their wardrobe. He takes it off and shoves it into the jacket pocket.
“Marc?” he tries again, pushing himself to his feet. A young man is playing with his dog on the grass nearby.
Steven closes his eyes and nudges the place in his mind that he and Marc share. There’s no pushback in response, no one to step forward and take over. There’s nothing at all.

Steven's eyes crack open despite the thrumming headache. He looks and feels a tremor of panic at the sight of red-roofed houses and snow-capped mountains in the far distance. This doesn't look like Egypt.
The déjà vu hits him like a freight train.
No, no, no. What is he doing back here?
“No. Oh no. Where, how—what?”
Go back to sleep, worm.—OR—
After falling into the sands of Duat, Steven is sent back in time to fix things. He may or may not end up fixing the wrong, but no less important, things.
