It's the Summer of 1997:
Jackie is back home, fresh off her freshman year of college. It wasn't great. She hasn't spoken to Shauna in a year, not since finding out about her and Jeff. Jackie's lonely and miserable, missing Shauna, but refusing to reach out. Natalie invites Jackie to tag along with her as she tours the country, playing music in dive bars from state to state. What starts as a spur of the moment decision turns into a coming of age story that changes Jackie's life forever.
AKA: Jackie learns about the joys of romanticizing your own life.

Summary
Jackie Taylor loved two things in this world: Soccer and Shauna Shipman (not specifically in that order). When she graduated she didn't expect much from her life. Her best friend was going to another state for college, and the sport she had dedicated most of her life to was over. She was going to Rutgers with an undeclared major expecting to be destined for the same miserable life her mother had. Then she got a call and her entire life was spilling into something she had never expected. Her best friend was pregnant with her ex-boyfriend's baby, and she wasn't about to let her go through it alone. And maybe she did deserve to be happy after all.

or: a rewrite of season 2 where jackie doesn't die, the ferocity of girlhood perseveres, the team ends up banding together against the wilderness to protect one another, and they basically just play like a fucking team and win. things could really be so much worse.

Summary
Lately, this version of Jackie is the one that worms her way into and dominates Shauna’s thoughts. The ones that used to only happen at night as she tried to fall asleep, but now they seep into classroom daydreams and solitary drives home after dropping Jackie off. Basically any time Shauna’s brain has a free moment, it switches to Jackie.
Lately, it goes like this:
Shauna thinks about pushing this Jackie against the lockers after practice one day. She thinks about running her fingers through the hair she knows smells like apples as she pulls Jackie’s lips against hers.

No, the siblings' eyes were not blue, but neither set was green, either. The firstborn, Sokka, had been born with eyes such a bright hazel they could be mistaken for gold. They shone in the sun, gleaming like brilliant flames.
The younger sibling, Katara, did not share her brother's golden eyes. Hers were grey, like the clouds before a spring thunderstorm, like the choppy waves and raging winds that accompanied such weather. They were not, however, cold. They were bright, and playful, and full of hope. They brought promise of warmer weather, of clearer skies.

Summary
They've been at college for an entire semester, and Shauna is really fucking sick of the Jackie-Jeff rollercoaster. So, when Jeff dumps Jackie right before winter break, Shauna decides she's willing to do pretty much anything to keep them broken up. Jackie just wants to feel wanted, so what harm can a few messages from a new account really do?
Meanwhile, Jackie is trying to figure out how to keep her biggest secret under wraps, now that Jeff has royally fucked her over and totally blown her cover. She'd just wanted one year out of the house, before having to worry about what not having a boyfriend meant for her.

“Do you ever think about me?” The question is so out of left field that the shock must be so visible on Shauna’s face that Jackie actually, physically cringes. “Forget I said that.”
“I, uh, I take the train to college every day.” It fumbles from her mouth before she can stop herself, an admission that she hasn’t even told Pete and Jules why she takes it, they just assume she’s lazy as if she doesn’t run every evening and is the only one of them that can make it up the stairs without stopping.
“Ugh, I hate trains. Remember I threw up all over myself when we took the train to New York in eight grade?” Jackie rambles to fill the space, to understand why Shauna said that. Shauna shuts her eyes tight for a second, formulating what to say, but all that comes out is a pathetic:
“Yeah, it’s why I take them.”
“What?”
“The seats are shitty and plastic and it would be cheaper to walk but they remind me of you, because you hate them.” She pauses, running a hand through her hair. “Jackie, did you really think that I’d forget about you?”
