“What are the charges?”
Kakashi smiled, twirling the band around his forefinger like a kunai. “Perjury and willful concealment.”
Iruka huffed and shook his head, lips thinning in a way that made Kakashi think he was holding back a grin. “You know, if I’d realized you had such a thing for long hair, I would have started wearing mine down years ago.”
Kakashi’s thumb caught the hair band, halting its revolution.
“Years?”

Iruka could feel the howl.
It reverberated in his bones, hummed just beneath his skin.
Initially, he had thought of it like hundreds of tiny threads, reaching out and tugging at his consciousness while he dropped off to sleep. After he met Wolf for the first time in the dreams, it had become a recognizable wolf’s howl even that never quite reached his ears, sticking somewhere in the crevices of his mind instead.
It was his call. The sign that Wolf was ready to be found.

The night of the Kyuubi attack, it's chakra was split in two. One half was placed into Naruto, the other into Iruka. Asked to protect and raise Naruto by Minato and Kushina, Iruka does everything in his power to do just that, even if it means sacrificing his own happiness and freedom along the way.
