After Kel breaks orders and invades Scanra to rescue her Haven civilians in Lady Knight, she is found guilty of treason in wartime.
She escapes with the help of friends and does the only thing Kel could ever conceive of doing in that instance-- she keeps fighting Tortall's war.
This is Kel, however; she is always willing to fight her battles alone, but people will always rise up to fight alongside her.

Elazul never did really like the color blue. It reminded him too much of the things he’d rather forget – his doomed people, his own failures – it was even the color most associated with sadness. He thought it a cruel joke that his core – his heart and reason for his persecution – was a gem famed for its rich blue hue. No, Elazul much preferred the color green. It reminded him of spring, when the flowers were in bloom, and the Sproutlings with their odd words.
But most of all, they reminded him of her, and her eyes, and her smile.
