“A year ago, I wasn’t sure I was coming home” he’d said, so flippantly and so casually, as he jostled with Chris on his couch – eyes firmly locked on to the TV screen as they battled it out on some video game. Buck wasn’t sure which one, exactly. It wasn’t important. Nothing felt important anymore, suddenly.
And that was all it took, just like that Buck had felt his entire world tilt on its axis slightly."

After Buck hears Eddie make a comment about not coming home from Texas, he starts to emotionally detach himself from Eddie to protect himself after he's forced to yet again confront his abandonment issues. He ends up baking, avoiding his feelings and confiding in Maddie who is quite frankly done with her brother and his gay situationship of 8 years. Oh, and Eddie Diaz gets very pouty about the whole thing, leading to a bizarre encounter with a bunch of rotting bananas. That will make sense by the end, I promise.

He was getting used to the idea when they crossed state lines into California around sunset—as he glanced over at his sleeping best friend and, despite all the cuts and bruises, despite the open-mouthed snoring, his only thought was about how beautiful Buck looked in the golden light—but sometime as they were passing by Joshua Tree he became so aware of all the thoughts he’d been repressing that he felt like he was going to vibrate out of his seat.

Summary
The world is coming to an end, Chuck has gone full blown cartoon villain, and is destroying every universe in a temper tantrum of epic proportions. The Winchester brothers may have a solution, which includes a very special ingredient from Purgatory. The blood of a creature that has been sent to Purgatory twice. It just so happens, Dean knows a vampire with those exact qualifications.
When Garth is asked to go to Purgatory to find this vampire and help the Winchesters face off with the biggest bad of them all, he isn’t the type to say no, especially when every universe is on the line. What Garth doesn’t expect is to find so much more than a world saving ingredient.

What happens after Cas is taken from him isn’t fast at all.
It waits. It meanders. It builds itself brick by brick, stretching over Dean’s resistance and growing in his garden like a slow-curling vine. It’s a feeling that spawns off a thousand moments, a thousand firsts, until Dean looks around and his whole world is green and brilliant, radiant blues.
It doesn’t start that way. It starts with black.***
Dean won't let Cas die that easily.
After a knee-jerk, slightly reckless rescue mission, Dean finds himself without aim and without conflict for perhaps the first time in his life. Is it possible for him- for them- to grow after all this time?
And of course, in the centre of it all (hasn't he always been?) is Cas. Maybe the after wouldn't be so bad with him.

Summary
What does John see when he looks at Cas?
Cas doesn’t look like a monster.
But neither does Dean.
John stands, slow. He holds out a hand. Calloused like Dean’s hands are calloused. Scarred the same way that Dean’s hands are scarred. There’s the smell of him in the air too. Earthy and dark, slightly sour around the edges. The room feels suddenly choked with it. Claustrophobic.
Cas probably smells like the fabric softener they buy in bulk at Costco, but so does Dean so he can’t tell.
John says, toneless, “I hear you’ve been driving my car.”

The closer you are to what you want—
Dean's twenty-nine year old mother, his undefined relationship with Cas and their small family. Some kind of impossible reconciliation with John Winchester. Michael, out of his head, without destroying the world. His father's approval. To see the Grand Canyon.
