Summary
A rapid infection, the doctor later explains. The odds were less than 15% that Dazai’s body would be able to fight it off. And, even if he did miraculously survive that, walking would be unbelievably painful, with the breaks he sustained. It would hurt every step, and radiate up. He’d always need a mobility aid. Maybe it would turn out he’d need it amputated anyway.
The choice was logical, in Dazai’s mind. Keep your patient alive, albeit with a small cost, or risk him almost surely dying just to have him be in pain for the rest of his days with his mobility affected more than it would’ve if the limb was gone.
He understands it. If he was in the doctor’s shoes, he would’ve done the same.
Then why does he feel so bad?

Summary
When Mori, in another sick attempt to showcase his power over his victims, graphically reveals the trauma he inflicted on young Dazai during a port mafia-armed detective agency meeting, all goes to hell.
A series of bad choices later and Dazai is left in a catatonic state. Both his friends and coworkers from the ADA, as well as his ex-partner and deepest connection, will have to learn to work together for his sake.
Many emotions are had, discoveries made, and friendships formed.
