Summary
This year would be different. She told herself this every year since the First. Hermione had never known tragedy the way her friends had. How they’d all managed to keep going was a miracle in her eyes. Harry had lost his parents, his friend, and now his God Father. Neville hadn’t lost his parents, but they weren’t really there. Ron lost faith in his brother Percy, his family broken. Hermione hadn’t truly experienced loss like that. She couldn’t really remember when her grandfather had passed. Even then she’d been too young to really process that loss. She couldn’t imagine how her friends managed to get through those experiences. If it ever happened to her now, she didn’t think she’d survive it.
Yes, this year would be different. They’d all be okay.

Summary
The scent of mint and parchment fill her lungs as she turns to see three snakes moving in closer to her and her friends. She fires curse after curse at them, but it doesn’t help. They continue to lash out and slither closer. She screams. Snakes with bright red eyes. The one in the middle is face to face with her now. She’s crying. There’s a familiar cackling laughter. Ron and Harry are no where to be found. Bright red eyes turn to silver, the snake morphs into a man. He looks sad. She can’t make out who he is. His lips brush over hers. Suddenly, she’s not afraid anymore.
“Mudblood.” He whispers.
