That was what his handler had said to him, surrounded by those flashing red lights and sirens; that people would come, to claim or to take, to use their authority to pull him back in. Fight it, he had told him. Fight them. Kill them and die trying. He'd not had the presence of mind at the time to ask if he’d meant or die trying instead, because handlers didn’t make mistakes.
The problem is he doesn’t want to.
