Summary
It’s been four years after Geralt essentially told Jaskier to fuck off on the mountain, and it still hurts when Jaskier hears people ask about “his Witcher.” Every time, he swallows down the pain and smiles and tells them that Geralt isn’t his and never was. He’s had to have said it about a million times by now, and he’s perfected the cadence of his voice, practiced the evenness of his words until he can’t hear the shake in them anymore. He hid his heartbreak because a heartbroken bard earned no coin, and he needed coin for food and room and enough alcohol to drown out the pain.
Then he stumbles across Geralt in the woods—and he’s dying.

It's a year after Jaskier has recovered from almost dying and he and Geralt are still traveling together. And fucking. A lot. Geralt is usually okay with seeing the scar across Jaskier's belly now, the brutal reminder of what they had gone through, but someone threatens to hurt Jaskier again and now Geralt can't stop thinking about losing him.
And yet, he still hasn't told Jaskier he loves him--not in those words, anyway. And this makes Jaskier sad.
Geralt fixes this.

But fret not, for Jaskier is no loser, and he certainly does not need a rude witcher bitching about his existance. So, he steps up, learns to live on his own again, and finds his calling as the Sandpiper.
But with great power comes great responsibility; will he be able to step up to the challenges thrown at him? Will he be able to protect the people he finds himself caring for? Will he know how to navigate his emotions once destiny throws Geralt back at him again?

Summary
Jaskier grasped Geralt’s body from under the armpits and tugged hard, attempting to drag his friend away. The acid on Geralt’s armor ate his flesh and Jaskier screamed, yet his hold remained firm.
He felt his arms and hands burn as he continued to drag the Witcher deeper into the forest, towards the stream. The acidic smell was nauseating, already threatening to pull him unconscious. With slow, painful steps, he dragged the Witcher to the stream, burning his fingers as he ripped the armor off his friend, the acid already eating through his gloves. The pain in his fingers was agonizing, drawing tears from his eyes as he divested his friend from the armor, then dragged him into the shallow water to wash the acid away.
(A contract turned wrong leaves Geralt and Jaskier injured)

Jaskier doesn’t ask for a lot. He’ll take what little he can scrape off the floor. A twitch of a smile, a soft-spoken word, a begrudgingly offered hand, anything. If that is the most he can get, he’ll satisfy himself with it. Or, at least, he will learn to. He’ll learn to cherish that half-smile, that hint of fondness that sometimes shines through, because a gift is a gift, no matter how small.
It doesn’t matter that the love Jaskier sings about will forever remain unknown to him.

There’s a dissonant twang as the door shuts behind the Witcher. The tavern falls into silence, seemingly holding its collective breath. Geralt takes a long time taking it in. He can't move his eyes past the boots, the dark red, tailored trousers.
Jaskier stands atop a table in the middle of the crowd, his fingers pressing the strings down onto the fret, mouth partially open with the next words of the song falling dead from his lips as his eyes meet Geralt's.
Or
Geralt is racing to Kaer Morhen, Jaskier is escaping mercenaries, and their paths happen to be intertwined by destiny.

And by Jaskier I mean, let's give Jaskier a continuing reason be afraid of Rience, by making Rience actually come after Jaskier.
