Summary
Geralt has lost everything. Vesemir has betrayed him, so he can’t go home. Yennifer has betrayed him and taken Ciri from him. Even Roach is gone. He’s never felt so alone and he yearns for the comfort of Jaskier’s enduring optimism and incessant chatter. He has betrayed Jaskier, however. He cast him aside on a mountain top, lashing out at him with a vicious tirade which the poor man had neither expected nor deserved. He needed Jaskier now more than ever and if anything that bitch Yennifer had said was true, then Jaskier needed him now, too. Even if he won’t stay, Geralt can at least give him the apology that is long overdue. He owes him that much at least but he desperately hopes that he’ll stay by his side, where he has belonged all along, to help him to find his daughter.

Geralt is running forward already, desperate to reach the river and retrieve his stupid bard from the woman’s clutches but he knows he won’t make it in time. Her arms wrap around the bard’s slim back, cold and rotting, and pulls him against her.
All he can do is watch as the woman slips beneath the water, dragging Jaskier down with her, and both disappear beneath the surface.
(Or, everything was going fine until the mermaid showed up)

Summary
When Jaskier woke he was somehow both freezing and too warm all at once.
He was in a bed, Geralt's bed, he eventually realised, and said Witcher had his bare chest pressed up against Jaskier's back, breaths even and slow in sleep.
He put that down as the reason for the too hot, and his exposed feet where the blanket had fallen away, as the too cold.
He readjusted himself as much as he could and cleared his dry throat a few times. Before too long he fell asleep once more.
OR
Jaskier gets sick and Geralt takes care of him.

They were venom filled words because at the time he had no other outlet for his rage and pain. Who better to blame then the hapless bard, whose only real crime was befriending a witcher. With an ache in his chest that only got worse with every passing day, Ciri mentions that perhaps destiny wasn't done with him just yet.
Or, 5 times Geralt could have/almost apologized and the 1 time he actually did.
