The answer includes: touching, sleeping in the same bed, playing D&D but only the two of them, a haircut, and Mike casually calling Will beautiful. Best friend shit. Will Byers is toast.

“I look for the vampire.”Mike’s face is turned towards him. Will was looking at the ceiling, but he shifts, just enough, his nose points at Mike’s nose. His lips in a line from Mike’s lips. His mouth is slightly open on the pillow. “Do I find him?” Will prompts.
“Yeah,” Mike breathes. “He’s beautiful.”

Updated to include a new take on the finale. I did not like Will coming out to a full ass committee, so here, he just comes out to Joyce and Mike. Later, Mike confesses his feelings.
“Have you thought of the consequences?” his dad. He has forgotten what his dad’s voice sounds like, not completely forgotten, that’s insane, but the sound surprises him.
“Consequences of what?” he screeches his chair. “Of what?”
Newspaper on his lap. “This boy. William.”
“Will, Dad. His name is Will.”
“Your lifestyle.”
Mike groans loud, presses his palms into his forehead. “I’m not gay!”
Nance’s tight-lipped smile. “Mike,” she says softly.

Nodding slowly, Wheeler murmurs, “You thought, I was going to ask to be more than friends. I just didn’t think it was a good time,” he’s holding the thermos. Will has just drank out of it, put his mouth on it, and Mike’s forefinger is tracing the open rim. “Not with everything going on with Tammy.”
Will’s lips are parted. “With Tammy?”

He’s sitting on the hospital bed, scrunching next to Kali. Gestures for El to sit on the bed opposite. “Dude, it does not have to end with you.”
