"I don't," Xie Lian admitted, still processing the information.
He had nowhere to be. Neither did Hua Cheng. The tension between them grew as they fell silent, staring at each other. After a month apart, Xie Lian was almost afraid he was dreaming. If he touched Hua Cheng, would he disappear into a sea of butterflies? But the tension only grew. The air was thick with it until, finally, all resolve snapped under the weight of a ghost king and a god's unrelenting desire, and they lunged at each other like starved wolves.

After spending so much time apart, Xie Lian finds himself overcome by an unrelenting lust. Thankfully, his husband is all too happy to oblige in every request he might have. No matter how long it takes.

Chu Wanning glared disdainfully at it.
So this was a toy he’d been recommended for this use. Plain and simple.

Ghost rut time! This is my imagining of what happened in *that* chapter after it faded to black. So yes, it’s 7k words of smut:
When Hua Cheng flattened Xie Lian’s palm against his lips and licked along the length of it, from wrist to fingertips, Xie Lian nearly fainted. The small amount of ghost-soothing cinnabar on his fingers had been useless – like tossing a teacup of water at a raging bonfire. Xie Lian’s eyes began to droop and roll back as pleasure threatened to consume him. Thinking was incredibly difficult. He must do something soon or they’d both burn in the conflagration. What was wrong with his San Lang? Why had the cinnabar had no effect whatsoever?
With a flash of intuition he pressed two fingers to Hua Cheng’s forehead. “I’m sorry,” he murmured, casting a quick spell that would allow him to observe the constitution of the other man’s soul.
What Xie Lian saw stunned him. His heart throbbed once, and his gut roiled in a very complicated way:
Hua Cheng was almost entirely Po, or animal soul, with all the Hun soul absent.
"San Lang," he whispered. "Please be patient with me. I'm going to try to help you but... I have no idea what I'm doing!"

"I don't want to owe anymore debts!" Kaveh yells abruptly, clenching his fists. "Nothing in life is free, I know that. I've learned that the hard way. And the last person I want to be indebted to is you."
Kaveh can't pay rent, he hasn't for eight long month, there just isn't enough money. But the last thing he wants is another thing for Alhaitham to dangle over his head.
He initiated it, but still, he never expected to find a new rent contract slipped under his bedroom door with the payment changed from mora to sexual intercourse.
AKA; Alhaitham and Kaveh use rent as an excuse to explore each other's bodies until their greed leads to more than just mere mutual lust.

Xie Lian’s teeth begin to chatter. “My enchanted…my…aha—”
“I have never seen a performance quite like it in all my long years. Daozhang must be very experienced in getting his way just by fluttering his long lashes. But is he truly foolish enough to believe this act will work on me? Does he think I will fall for his tricks?”
