It’s hard, at times, to keep playing at ignorance when the intrepid little moron dumps out the entire bundle of his sleek, downy-soft pelt in search of a new quill, but if he isn’t going to bring it up, Geralt’s certainly not going to pry, even though he does have to prompt the bard surreptitiously more than a few times when the flighty little pest evidently forgets all about his pelt and moves to happily trot along on his way, his freedom left behind in the dust. It’s a fine line Geralt walks, playing dumb while hyper-aware of the situation, but he manages to hold his peace and remain silent even when he wants to scold the selkie to be fucking careful. The bard babbles along at length throughout the day enough without prompting; gods forfend Geralt give him any sign of encouragement for more.
Still, despite Geralt’s best efforts, he finds that the selkie–who has chosen Jaskier as his name of all things–is growing on him.
It is, in a few words, fucking obnoxious.
(Jaskier is a selkie who is absolutely HORRIFIC at keeping up with his pelt) (lucky, then, that he has a witcher to do it for him)

“No.” Geralt grunted immediately, shoveling more of the stew he’d been served into his mouth.
“You haven’t even heard it.” Yennefer snapped, arms crossed over her chest as she watched the Witcher scarf down his food. “My gods Geralt, no one is going to take that away from you, slow down.”
Geralt ignored her with another grunt, finishing the stew with gusto. It’d been a while since he’d had anything but his own hunting to feed himself with.
“I’ll buy you another, if you agree to at least listen.” Geralt scowled, but the tug in his stomach made the decision for him. No harm in hearing her out, at least.

After the — what, twenty? Twenty-five? — years of travelling together, Geralt must know who Jaskier is. How could his lovely, brave, kind-under-all-the-layers Witcher not realise who he was? Maybe he just didn’t care that Jaskier was a Viper, the apparent sworn enemies of the Wolves.
Because, despite being a master bard-slash-assassin-slash-Witcher, Jaskier is a horrible liar. There was only so many times where he could hurriedly steer Geralt away from a rambling drunk, spouting rumour and hearsay about the ‘Shadow-cloaked Assassin' before anyone in their right mind would begin to wonder. And yet, Geralt didn’t. And this went on for such a long time, that there was a fleeting, tiny hope in his chest that Geralt would never find out, and Jaskier would be allowed to live the rest of his life a happy lie.

“Filthy mutant, we don’t want your kind here,” the man hisses, smashing his tankard against Jaskier’s face, and Geralt sees red. How dare he insult and attack Jaskier like this, when all Jaskier has done is try and help?
Geralt launches himself at the man, bashing his lute over the top of his head. Behind him, Lambert lets out a triumphant whoop as he and Eskel throw themselves into the group of drunks who’d surrounded Jaskier, who’d dared to treat him with such cruelty.
“Serves them right,” Lambert sneers when the brawl is over, the group of drunks laying on the ground, groaning in pain. “Fucking arseholes.”
Eskel nods in agreement, and Geralt bares his teeth in a satisfied grin. “Damn right.”
Or: Reverse!AU but Geralt, Eskel, and Lambert are all bards in a band together, and they go feral when someone insults their witcher.
