A wink from Xue Yang further disrupts Mo Xuanyu's equilibrium. "What's wrong? Don't wanna spend time with a delinquent like me?"
Despite being lightly spoken, the words are serrated, warning Mo Xuanyu to tread lightly. He eyes Xue Yang warily, expecting a trap.
"I…wouldn't mind," he finally says, slowly.
Xue Yang hops to his feet, light and limber, and extends his right hand to a shocked Mo Xuanyu. His grip is tight when Mo Xuanyu takes the offered hand, but Mo Xuanyu doesn't mind because it feels grounding and real in a way he can't quite articulate. Weighing his options for a private place to talk, the only spot that comes to mind is…
"My bedroom?" he asks, realizing too late how forward the offer sounds.
A knowing grin spreads across Xue Yang's face, making Mo Xuanyu prepare to backpedal, but Xue Yang just says, his eyes turning into crescents, "Sure! Lead the way."

Despite all this, at this particular moment, Xue Yang does not yet know that he has fucked up.
As an outback cultivator, Xue Yang is temporarily renting a crappy shack on Song Lan's farm. There are surprises.

The first time Lan Wangji had come to him, it had been a rainy day, just like this one. It had been pouring that morning when Lan Wangji had appeared out of the storm, drunk and drenched, grabbing him by the collar with shaking hands.
“How could you?” he had hissed. “How could you?”
Lan Wangji had lowered his head, letting out a sob. If there had been tears on his face that night, they had been lost in the rain.
“You killed him.”
[The first chapter was written for the prompt: Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji have a standing once a month hook up that started during the years Wei Wuian was dead. At first, it was hate fucking, but it turned into feelings that they both ignored. After Wei Wuxian returns, Jiang Cheng assumes the standing monthly hookup has stopped. Except cue one month after the temple events, Lan Wangji shows up with Wei Wuxian in tow.
The second chapter was written for the prompt: Zhanchengxian where Wangxian praise and worship Jiang Cheng because he’s feeling insecure and like he doesn’t fit.]

Summary
Wei Ying uses his smile and bright laughs like a folding screen, like one of Nie Huaisang's many fans, but Lan Wangji sees. He sees the network of lightning and raised skin on the boy's back, sees his smile falter with every barbed reprimand from Jiang Wanyin and the way he constantly skirts around the border of things, as if he has to constantly know the point where he is unwanted.
He looks at Wei Ying and sees a future of squandered potentials and a brightness curbed at every turn, of a life making himself less in a Sect that would always see him as a servant's son and the reflection of their own inadequacy, and he laments that Wei Ying could not seem to see that - See past the sense of debt and false belonging his so-called family had ingrained into him.
But Lan Wangji is a patient man, and he would make Wei Ying see in time. Even if it means using the insecurities of Wei Ying's own family against him.

"Aren't you going to tell me what to do?" Wei Wuxian finally asks, more confused than anything else. This doesn't feel like Lan Zhan is trying to turn him into a proper sub at all. He hasn't even issued a single command toward Wei Wuxian yet!
"Do you want me to?"
"It's not about wanting or not wanting, is it? Isn't the whole point of a submission contract that the sub, you know, is submissive towards the Dom? You should tell me to kneel or to beg or to kiss the floor, or at least make me serve you instead of you serving me, or…" Wei Wuxian trails off when he realizes his voice is raised enough to almost count as a shout, and feels ashamed of this unnecessary outburst.
OR: After it is revealed to the whole world that Wei Wuxian, who was raised as a Dominant by the Jiang's, is actually a submissive, he goes to Gusu to seek shelter in a Dom-sub contract with Lan Wangji even though he is not at all sure that he can behave the way that he believes Lan Wangji wants him to.
