Her voice is professional but kind, likely specifically designed to put callers at ease, but Thomas still fumbles his phone in a sweaty, guilty palm and almost reflexively abandons what has to be the stupidest thing he’s ever done, because he has no clue how this all works from this end, but his desperation wins out against his better judgement.
“Uh. I want, um… That is, I’d like-” Teeth gritted. “Can I please speak to number twelve?”
OR
Thomas discovers the hot, depressingly unavailable roomate he's a little stupid over is supplementing his income by working a phone sex line from their apartment.
