Hidden away in a little cave, with thunder and rain all around them, Elim and Julian sing.
Summary of Thunder Song: "After crash-landing on a stormy L-Class planet, Garak and Bashir begin to de-age rapidly. Now a scrawny pre-augment Julian must take shelter with six-year-old Elim, a tentatively murderous but desperately lonely boy. Julian can barely speak – and without functioning translators, Elim’s words are useless. But what they can do... is sing."

Summary
Julian starts, pulled out of his reverie, then smiles slowly, recognizing the beginning of The Game. Garak returns the smile, enjoying the familiar parry, but he feels an uncertainty within. He’s gripped with a sense that, if he plays correctly, he may learn far more about Dr. Bashir tonight than he is prepared to.
While they're stranded on a planet, Garak reflects on his and Julian’s history. Things take a turn after Julian discovers a rather interesting fern, leading their conversation into previously uncharted territory. tl:dr they're both just little guys full to the brim with feelings, okay??

Summary
A companion piece to the TV show, this is everything that should/would have happened between Garak and Bashir on DS9 if the 90s had been ready for it. Each work is situated in or around the events of an episode of the show.
Early works *should* make enough sense as stand-alone short stories to be read as such, especially for DS9 fans familiar with the episodes they happen in/around, but reading chronologically will offer the reader a richer view of their evolving relationship. Later works increasingly rely on understanding the larger arc to make much sense.
