Summary
Set after season 14 episode 18: Absence.
As Castiel is burdened by Dean's anger, he feels like nobody wants or needs him around anymore.
Dean tries to process the recent events and can't help but deeply regret the way he reacted. What he said to Castiel is unforgivable, yet the angel doesn't seem to hold it against him. Then again, Castiel never seems to hold anything against him, so it makes it easier to take it out on him. What if this time, he's gone too far? What if this time, Castiel isn't fine?
Then Dean has to fix it, before it's too late.

Hope blooms in Dean's chest. This customer knew his name, did he know Dean?
“Have we met before?”
The man stares at him, then, ever-so-slightly, he shakes his head.
Dean tries not to let his disappointment show. “Never mind.”
There's a beat of silence.
“I’m Castiel.” The man says, slow and full of meaning.
“Nice to meet you, Cas.”
Castiel visibly swallows, and his voice cracks as he answers, “Nice to meet you too, Dean.”
In which Dean wakes up and can't remember anything at all about his past, but while reestablishing his life he becomes friends with a strange man named Castiel. Dean might have a teeny, tiny crush on him. Now if only he can figure out why Cas is so reluctant to start a relationship.

Summary
Brittle and battle-worn, Cas looks at him over coffee one morning and says, "I need to go," and Dean instantly knows that he's not coming back.
He's not really sure how he knows it, but he does. It settles into the pit of his stomach, curling hot and tight like something he instinctively wants to tear out with his bare hands. He takes a breath, and it gets stuck in his throat, hitching there. It hurts, hurts, hurts when he finally exhales.
"Yeah," Dean says, "of course you do," and he nods jerkily as he looks down at his phone. He doesn't say goodbye. He doesn't look up from the screen when Cas gets up and leaves the room. He doesn't finish his coffee, or move for a long time.
By nightfall, Cas is gone.

Summary
With Sam off somewhere he probably shouldn't be, Dean is having trouble sleeping. He's not sure if having this trench coated angel watching over him is making it better or worse, but then Dean is able to drop his defenses just a bit. And he starts grudgingly and tentatively exploring things he usually works to bury.
Very much gen, not even a kiss, this Dean isn't anywhere ready for that yet. Set in Season 4 era.
