Summary
Max is generally a little stubborn, but every now again he’s capable of admitting when he’s made a mistake.
Like now.
He’s in his kitchen, stirring a cup of bland tea that he won’t drink, when he realises how pointless this all is. It’s been two days since Spain but he misses George like a lost limb and he suspects George may miss him too.
There’s no need to deprive themselves of something so good just because they’ve indulged in the softer side of things a little too much. After all, everything is good in moderation.
Or: Max and George start hooking up in Qatar. When the hate-sex turns to something softer Max isn’t quite sure how to feel about it.

“What did you mean, ‘we’re not friends anymore’?” Will demands.
“Oh god,” Mike says faintly, because he can’t think of a single other thing to say.
“It’s Will, actually,” Will says. “Or maybe you forgot that in the five years since you last bothered to speak to me before you sent me this.”
He unfolds his arms to brandish a crumpled envelope in Mike’s face, and he knows without even looking at his own handwriting on the front exactly what it is.
(or, the summer after all his friends graduate from college, mike writes will a letter to say goodbye. predictably, nothing about this goes as planned.)

Now, someone walked into the room. A boy, awkwardly standing at the side of his bed, looking over him worriedly. His hair was brown and scruffy, and he had big baby doe eyes and a yellow-and-blue horizontally-striped shirt like a cartoon character. The window was lighting him up like he was important to Mike’s narrative. The curtains are blue, thought Mike, this boy is light. I love metaphors. Maybe he was high on the pain meds. Upon seeing him, Mike felt a great affection, a great peace. Plus, he had long eyelashes. Mike almost giggled to himself. He was definitely a little high.
“Hi.” breathed Mike.
“Hi.” he said, hesitating.
“We’re friends?” Mike asked hopefully.
Or: During the Party's final battle with Vecna, Mike is gravely injured and loses his memories. He wakes up in a hospital only remembering a handful of inconsequential little things, like how much he loves a boy who seems like light.

Summary
In the years after it all ended, Nico would remember the first day of his meeting Lewis as perhaps the second most important event of his young life. It had been the start of what would be only a brief friendship, but those few short years had been brilliantly, terribly important, and the rest of his memory tended to unfold from there like lesser tributaries, so that if he were to follow any thought back to its origin, eventually he came back around to Lewis. The first most important event, of course, was when Nico killed him.
Or, Nico Rosberg volunteers for the 49th Annual Hunger Games. So does Lewis Hamilton. It does not end well, but the rest of it is something special.
