Summary
Melissa King didn't notice when Frank Langdon became part of her routine.
It happened slowly.
Morning rides through Pittsburgh winters. Spare phone chargers in glove compartments. Post-shift boba runs. Inside jokes whispered over trauma alerts. His kids launching themselves into her arms without hesitation.
Then Dr. Cameron Grant asks her to dinner.
Everyone else can see exactly what's happening.
Frank is hopelessly, painfully in love with his best friend.
Mel just isn't sure why the thought of losing him hurts so much.

Summary
A decade ago, the answer would have slipped from Mel King’s lips without a second thought. But looking back at the wreckage of her past, she no longer has a simple answer. Armed with strict medical algorithms and a flawless professional mask, Mel has built a quiet life treating the traumas of strangers to avoid facing her own.
But tonight is about to become the worst shift of her career. Amidst the sterile chaos of a crowded ER, a critically injured patient is wheeled through the double doors. He is broken, bloody, and clutching her wrist with an agonizingly familiar grip.
Ten years of running, ten years of silence, and Mel is suddenly staring into the eyes of her patient—and her greatest nightmare: her father.

Even more so as he gently eased the door open and saw her there, Dr. Melissa King-Langdon. A messy blonde braid, her glasses askew on her nose. His eyes following the silhouette of her body lying on her side, her stomach swollen with his child. Her feet propped on the arm of the couch as she slept peacefully. She was fucking gorgeous.

Summary
"Do you ever think," she starts, and immediately regrets it. This wasn't a conversation people were supposed to have, especially not on a roof, especially when they had the same thought flickering in their heads. But the words were out, she couldn't take them back. She peeks at the edge of the roof out of the corner of her eye.
She doesn't need to finish the sentence; he already knows what she's asking. "Yeah, I do. You?"
Or, Mel King and Frank Langdon have a shared moment on the roof.

“Is this the Frank discount?” She asked, hoping her joke came off witty. He shook his head, already free pouring a clear liquor into his shaker, picking up another bottle with his free hand.
“Frank discount is for regulars and people who tip well.” He replied. “This is something else.” He knocked the top of the shaker, before lifting it above his head, giving it a hard shake. He grabbed a glass from somewhere beneath him, pouring the drink before sliding it in front of her.
“What’s something else?” She asked. He looked up at her, his eyes full of a calm confidence that suddenly made her feel warm.
“The Pretty Mel discount, obviously.” He looked completely unashamed as he nodded towards her drink, telling her to taste it.

Langdon won’t look at Robby. The walls keep closing in, of the room, of his life. Maybe he deserves it, but the claustrophobia of his every minute movement being surveilled and scrutinized, of being jerked around like a dog on a cruel master’s leash, is starting to make him feel insane.
It was supposed to be a good day, a fresh start. He thinks he might really throw up.

The invitation tumbled from his lips before he could process it, before his brain could tally the risks or second-guess the leap. “Mel,” he said, his voice dropping to a very soft, deliberate murmur. “Do you want to stay awhile? I mean, the fireworks are about to start.”
Her eyes lit up with tentative surprise, wide and shimmering under the bright overhead light. “Really?”
“'Course,” Frank replied, as easily as breathing. His smile was steady now, warm as the promise of the show to come, even as his heart hammered against his ribs. “Wouldn’t want you to miss them.”

IN WHICH - Mel King and Frank Langdon’s usual carpool goes horribly wrong…
-
Reckless Driving By Lizzy McAlpine
-
“What do we got?” Dr. Michael Robinavitch asks, running up to the gurney. He was just notified of a trauma coming in from Dana, the charge nurse, and was ready for action along with two others. He slips his stethoscope into his ears and feels around the patient’s chest. He takes a quick look at the patient.“Car crash victim, car versus truck, launched through the window. Driver’s right behind us,” the medic says.
“Dana!” Robby yells. She points to Trauma 2 and they roll her in. They transfer her to the hospital bed and people frantically move around her. Just before Robby can join them, an EMT takes a hold of his arm and forces him to face her.
“Robby,” she says, motioning for him to follow her out of the chaos for a second. “There’s something you should know about this patient.”
“What is it? I don’t have much time. If you keep me here much longer there might not be a patient for me to save in there anymore.”
“It’s one of your own,” she reveals with bated breath.
“What?”
“It’s Melissa King.
