Summary
Alex isn’t lazy. He’s just got a lot on his mind at the moment. The problem is that the strategies he’s been using to try and keep himself from overthinking are arguably as unhealthy as the issues he had to start with. Staying out with his friends all night, setting up bar tabs and singing karaoke until four o’clock in the morning. Throat sore from tuneless renditions of classic heartbreak ballads and the kind of eye strain that comes with hours spent staring at subtitled lyrics on an LED screen.
Alex is done with Saturday nights. He doesn’t want to sing sad songs and drink too much gin anymore. No matter how dry it is, he still finds tears to shed.
He’s tired and his headaches.
He doesn’t want to cry anymore, but his heart is broken.

George pressed his head against the lockers again. They were running out of time, and George wasn’t sure what the end of it represented. If the end came with Daniel giving up on him and their relationship, or if it came with them just separating for college and never seeing or talking to each other again.
Either way, it meant losing Daniel. And if that was inevitable, George wished he knew which way would hurt less for the both of them.
George could hear Daniel fidgeting from behind the lockers. His fingers were drumming against his knees and his feet were doing little taps against the floor. George heard him sigh softly, then the softest humming escape his lips.
“I swear to God, Ricciardo, if you start singing right now –”
“Well, Troy Bolton would,” Daniel retorted instantly.
George’s laughter and the joy in his heart came out of nowhere, but it dissolved the tension and the awkward silence between them, and Daniel was giggling loudly like he was proud of himself for making George laugh, and for a split second, George felt like everything was going to be okay.

Summary
George raised one hand, fingertips tingling with the anticipation of being placed on Alex’s cheek. Alex didn’t move as George’s palm hovered over the side of his face; he held George’s gaze defiantly, not flinching or blinking, like he was challenging George again. Challenging George to touch him. To try and kiss him again.
He was just so infuriating.
George let his hand drop back to his side.
The smallest smirk appeared on Alex’s lips, like he took that as a personal victory. I knew you wouldn’t dare. George could hear the thought.
It took every last ounce of subversion in George’s body for him to turn around and make his way back to his car, leaving Alex standing alone on the front stoop.
