Rio turns, brows raised. “What?”
Alice doesn’t answer, eyes locked on something past the crowd.
“Seriously, what is it?” Rio asks again.
Then Alice grabs her arm hard enough to nearly knock the drink out of her hand and points.
Rio follows with her eyes. And there, maybe twenty feet away, walking through a break in the crowd like some terrifying fashion shark is Agatha freaking Harkness.
“Didn’t you say your boss was straight? Then why does someone who looks exactly like her just happen to be at Pride...with what looks a whole lot like a hot, gorgeous, probably very gay date?”
OR
Rio lies and calls in sick so she can go to Pride on a workday.

Leaning slightly forward, she came closer to her head and hair, strongly smelling of lavender and sandalwood. She cleared her throat and scratched her nose instead of inhaling it. “Go slow, no need to rush if you haven’t done this in a while,” Rio mumbled as she arranged the sheets. “Oh,” Agatha grinned, “I always go slow when I can Miss Vidal,” she replied and placed her hands on the keyboard, hitting the first notes with a surety Rio hadn’t expected.

Agatha wets her lips, leans in close. Rio’s eyes track the movement before she has time to realize, and she has nowhere to go, back pressed against the many tins of chopped tomatoes on the shelf. She tries to keep a neutral expression. Unfazed. Possibly unsuccessfully.
“So I’ll earn it.”

Four boxes of unexamined documents straight from her time period of expertise that she gets to be the first to decode. A research grant that will last through the spring semester, at least. A holiday break full of peace and quiet. The only problem was that she had suddenly been handed a bratty grad student who was probably going to steal her thesis right out from underneath her.
or: agatha plans to spend the holiday by herself. too bad rio's around, being endearing and unwillingly filling her with holiday cheer.

A bitter laugh escapes the back of Abby’s throat, but she pushes it back quickly. “It was Holland-Caldwell, actually,” she clarifies weakly. “Just Holland now. Again. For, uh, a couple of years now, I mean.”

All of this was to say that she felt for Harper, she did. But it didn’t excuse anything. When Harper had dropped her off at the hotel on the edge of town, she had immediately called John and talked it over with him. John was right - every story is different. But it’s not her fault if she wants someone who is on the same chapter as her. She’s not even asking for the same page - just the same general area of the book.
Not someone who is four chapters behind the major plot twist.AU where Abby says "I'm not going" and actually means it.
