Summary
“Well, yes.” Miyano would be lying if he said he was only looking to hook up. If that were what he was after, he’d have had plenty of opportunities in the past. But no matter how many people he went on a date with, it just never felt right somehow. “I have to start somewhere. I’m not expecting to find my soulmate after just a few dates.”
“I wouldn’t exactly call 42 ‘a few’.”
Miyano wants to snap back something, anything, to make this feel less humiliating than it is. There is no reason for Kuresawa to make up the numbers. While math has never been Miyano’s strong point, his friend’s career in astronomy comes with a certain necessity to engage in his worst subject. So, while he isn’t sure just why Kuresawa is keeping track of the numbers, he is fairly certain that he is correct anyway.
“You have a better idea?”
“Actually, yes,” Kuresawa says with a hint of a smile that makes Miyano shift uncomfortably on his chair. It gives off the feeling that this was exactly the question his friend had waited for. “Let me organize a date for you.”

“Can I kiss you?”
It’s been a while since Sasaki asked instead of just catching Miyano’s willing lips. But something about being in their own little space, free from all distractions and interferences, makes Sasaki’s heart flutter the same way it did when he first fell in love with Miyano, makes him feel almost shy to just be holding his boyfriend.
Rather than answer, Miyano gently moves Sasaki away from his shoulder, cups Sasaki’s face with his hands before leaning down and kissing him. It’s soft, gentle, similar to the first time they kissed out in the park near Sasaki’s house. The first kiss in their new home, in their new life together.

Did Miyano notice the slight shaking in his voice? Despite generally having a good grip on his reactions, Sasaki can't help losing that control around Miyano at times and making an absolute fool of himself. Like now.
"I-it's your birthday today and I...I..." Miyano closes his eyes, takes a deep breath before looking at Sasaki and holding a small black box towards him - the side facing the ocean shining slightly orange from the last bit of sun still available. "Happy birthday..."

Fuck this...
Sasaki leans against the building wall behind him, slides down until he sits uncomfortably on the cold stone. He reluctantly wets his lips before rubbing them with the back of his hand, removing the last stains of red that he is sure have gathered in the corners of his mouth. Despite the warmth in his body already fading, Sasaki knows her blood will last him comfortably for at least a week. He won’t have to worry about the nagging pain in his body from his veins drying out for at least that long.
He lets his head sink on his knees, folds his arms over the back of his head as his mind starts getting foggy. Even though he just sated his urges, Sasaki can already feel the nagging voice in his head telling him to find someone else, to chase the faint feeling of life that only fills his body while he has his teeth dug into someone’s neck. It doesn’t matter how much he tries to resist it, in the end, the hunger always, always wins.
And Sasaki hates it every single time.

After 200 years devoid of meaning, Sasaki happens to meet Miyano, a young medical examiner, while he is on the autopsy table.

“H-how do you know my name?”
Miyano doesn’t remember telling him. They do go to the same university but seeing that he has never encountered him during class or in his department, he doubts they are studying in the same course. The customer’s eyes shine with amusement as he laughs and points to the name tag.
“I can read, you know? I’m Sasaki, I think I’ve seen you around campus before.”
Miyano feels the heat in his face and hurries to hide it behind his hands. Of course Sasaki – somehow knowing his name makes Miyano’s heart beat just a little faster – would be able to read his name tag.

SasaMyaa Week 2024 | Day 3 | Fireworks
The reason Sasaki has never stayed for the end of any high school festival before his third year is that he doesn’t actually like fireworks.
It’s not the noise they make or the crowd of people that come with them. Even though that definitely doesn’t make them more appealing, there would be plenty of ways to avoid either if he’d want to. He could find a quiet spot, possibly somewhere on the rooftop, devoid of people. He could go to the nearest convenience store and grab a pack of earplugs to block out the noise.
Sasaki could do that, but he doesn’t.
Because the main reason he doesn’t like fireworks is that they remind him of how alone he has always, always been.

Talking shouldn’t be this difficult. It’s not like he is asking anything weird. They have been together for over a year now, have known each other for almost 3. Why is asking a simple question making Sasaki’s mouth and throat so dry it’s difficult to speak.
It almost feels like he is confessing all-over again. Sasaki still remembers the way his heart beat in his throat then and how, for a moment, he could only hear the rush of blood in his own ears. They had just been about to do a lot more than simply making out, and yet Sasaki’s heart is racing even more now than it did earlier.
