If she had thought that the West Farthing was making a fuss about nothing the day Bilbo Baggins left, it paled in comparison to the uproar that swept through the land the day they were delivered news of his fate. People were meeting in the lane – in the lane! – to talk about it, as if they were common farmers without a parlour between them! His was the name on every pair of flapping lips, and each time the tale reached her ear it had only seemed to grow more outlandish: armies and dragons, elves and orcs!
As if Bilbo Baggins had the courage to say boo to a goose!
Lobelia Sackville-Baggins could admit that the departure of Bilbo Baggins caused a bit of a stir, but she is far more concerned with the fate of Bag End than the hobbit who once called it home.
