I open my mouth to assure him that he definitely did, but no words come out. A cold feeling has settled in my head and in my throat. Snow’s brow furrows at my lack of response. I try to speak again, but I can’t. I physically cannot speak. I throw my hands up to my throat. Panic rises up in me. I can’t speak.

Summary
It's impossible to predict what will happen whenever Simon's magic goes off. So when a squabble in the Mage's office during the spring of 7th year leads to Simon accidentally filling his words with magic, no one knows what to expect after the room goes white.
Being transported 12 years in the future, however, was not on the list of even remotely plausible outcomes.
Now, Simon has to figure out how to get everyone he transported with him back to their rightful timelines. Meanwhile, his future-self has to contend with not ruining the future he's built with Baz by revealing too much information.

“Dare,” Baz says, like it’s an annoying chore he’s being nagged to undertake. His mouth twitches and his neck cranes, as if he was going to roll his eyes then changed his mind suddenly. Simon grips the knees of his jeans, effectively further shredding the shreds already there. He sees Penny give him a sympathetic (but also probably relieved) look out of the corner of his eye.
Henriette smiles. A real smile, not the smarmy smirks she’s been wearing this whole night. Simon suddenly wishes she’d go back to using the smirk, because her real smile looks unfathomably evil. “I dare you to find the person in this room you think is the most beautiful, and give them a kiss.”
“Fuck me,’ Simon mutters. He’s going to choose Agatha. He’s going to choose Agatha, kiss her, and any chance he had of getting his girlfriend back will go up in flames like the flames Simon wishes he could set to Baz’s body.

During a strenuous game of truth or dare, Baz is dared to kiss the one he deems the most beautiful. If he does, everyone will know his most dire secret. If he doesn't? An eternity of bad luck enough to make him wish he were dead.
Death suddenly doesn't look so bad.

Simon is worried about what Baz might get up to all summer long without Simon there to keep an eye on him.
Penny says, “You wage psychological warfare on yourself so much, Baz doesn’t have to plot anything. You do all the work for him.”
Which is ridiculous.
All Simon wants is to plague Baz with thoughts of him, give Baz a taste of his own medicine.
All Simon wants is to be on Baz's mind so much, he can’t focus. Can’t work on coming up with a spell to end Simon. Can’t plot a political coup.
All Simon wants is for Baz to not get any fucking reprieve from Simon all summer.
Is that too much to ask?
But psychological warfare is a tricky thing...
Merlin knows Simon's summers in the care home are awful as is. This year is made worse than usual thanks to the after-effects of a spell gone awry.
The days are so hard, but the nights...?
