Summary
As Dennis scrolled down his feed, his thumb leaving a smear from the chips he’d been idly digging into on the couch, the feeling dawned on him. The one that he’d encountered last summer, when he’d walked out across the sweetgrass meadow towards the cows, barefoot and battling his love of the flat, open world of Nebraska as well as the purpose he felt in the city. Purpose and community. Something he’d never had back home, despite the fact his body ached for the remembered sensations of smell, touch and sight. Pittsburgh would never sound like cooing mourning doves settled on the tin roof of the shed, their little feet tapping as they called out. It wouldn’t smell like fertiliser and mown grass on a Sunday after his dad got back from church. And it wouldn’t ever feel like lying in the field out back of the farmhouse, understanding that everything existed for a reason, even the grass tickling Dennis’ ankles and the ladybirds dawdling over his knucklebones.

Summary
Dennis Whitaker is almost done with his residency at PTMC. He’s matched, he’s on nights with Dr. Abbot, and he’s finally—supposedly—over his crush on Dr. Michael 'Robby' Robinavitch.
Then Robby and Abbot get punished, shifts are swapped, and suddenly Dennis is back to work under his former mentor.
Old feelings don’t stay buried for long. Especially when it turns out Robby isn’t nearly as unaffected as Dennis thought...

Summary
Dennis is absolutely crushing on his boss. Honestly he’s not always sure if it’s that he’s actually crushing or if he’s just attention and touch starved and his primary source of attention and touch happens to be from the chief attending of the ED. He’s…managing.
Besides, Dennis is pretty positive Dr. Robby is completely ignorant to the effect he has and certainly would never reciprocate his delusions. Right?

Summary
So it was nice to text with a man, even if it was anonymous. Anonymity had been the stipulation from the start. (As well as: "Actual words. No Gen Z speak.") Dennis went by DJ. Childhood nickname, no one here knew that. The professor went by M. Dennis liked to call him professor. It was flattering to think he got the attention of someone successful and important.
