Summary
He first met Kurapika at a bar while waiting on a flight. They made casual conversation until Leorio had to leave to pick up his second foster son. He didn't think much of it at the time but the mysterious stranger from the bar somehow kept finding his way back into Leorio's life, no matter how much each of them tried to avoid it.
Where Leorio is a surgical intern just trying to look after himself and his two foster sons, Gon and Killua, and Kurapika is exactly the sort of distraction he doesn't need.

Rouen, France, 1895
Leorio, a young Italian immigrant, came to France to find a job. But, as he arrived at Rouen’s train station, he was immediately accused, by the lady he had shared his wagon with, of having stolen her necklace. He escaped just in time, aware he wasn’t the culprit, and ran away. In his escape, he found refuge at L’Oeillet vert, a cabaret, whose owner accepted to hide him in return for becoming a waiter for the night. However, it was without taking into account the real reason behind this sudden offer, the previous waiter had been assassinated.
Kurapika Kurta, the owner, was certainly the most charming creature Leorio had ever seen, but it was obvious the murder was linked to his past. For now, if Leorio wanted to make it out alive, he would have to help Kurapika solve this mystery.
