    Summary

After ramming the sub straight into the Light, Simon wakes up on a strange spaceship with no memory of how he got there. The state of the Hail Mary -spacious, clean, bright and comfortable- can only lead to one conclusion: Simon has somehow been picked up by one of the highest-ranking leaders of the C.O.I.

Luckily, Dr. Grace doesn't seem to recognize him, buying Simon enough time to hatch yet another desperate plan for survival before his identity is discovered. In the meantime, Simon tries his best to stay in the man's good graces (no pun intended), but he's hardly known for his charming personality.

Both of them are in for a bumpy ride.

    Summary

    Ch.6 excerpt:

"His Brothers did not hate him, did not wish him dead; not yet, he still had a few more years before the judgement would be made on whether he could continue to grow in Eden’s well-tended garden. Instead it was a lesson, a reminder that he must fight to earn his place in the forest, to get the right to rise above the canopy and not choke to death in the darkness of the undergrowth below.

Your roots must take, Simon. They must take and feed and grow strong.

It was an act of indifference, no different to turning soil to aerate it. Beneficial for the ground, yes, but an entirely passive action to have performed; was up to the soil to make the most of it. With every punch, each heel stamped onto his toes, Simon knew what they were doing. What they were saying.

‘We have given you a gift in hopes you will take it and survive,’ They said, rammed into every bruise, every scrape, the cutting of his tooth into his lip, ‘Will you adapt or choke?’"

Or: It's not enough to want to live. You have to make a choice.

    Summary

Grace freezes suddenly, knocking into Adrian’s arm. “Holy fishsticks. Holy fishsticks, he bit through Xenonite."

"Yes." Adrian sounds amused. Listen, it’s not Grace’s fault! He’s had a bunch of other things to worry about! Things like grading, and analyzing blood samples with disturbing origins, and checking in with Armando to make sure Simon’s healing properly—oh heck, it’s totally his fault. Oh well, he’ll live this down. Probably.

"Grace concerned about new revelation, question?"

The beast appeared seventeen days before the man.

The man, or maybe we shouldn’t call him a man quite yet, appeared late at night.

Grace is living a quiet, if boring, life on Erid when someone - or something -mysteriously appears in the biodome's ocean.

Simon claws his way back to personhood.

    Summary

No one was interested in a desolate place that only came with two infinite resources: human blood and questions without answers. However grim the landscape was, it had one great advantage - it was a free real estate and Scout could bet every drop of blood on this moon that something must've been left behind, simply waiting to be found.

Something sprouted inside the Darkness, proving it wasn't just impenetrable, boiling, bubbling blackness. Something started clawing its way through. Captivity was no freedom. Collective was no choice. Unity was a prison.

And something was already fed up with prisons.
