Summary
The first time Tim gets kidnapped, he's four years old.
His parents are out in Malaysia on a dig. They have been for the past four months and two nannies--the last of which is yet to be replaced. So he's home alone when the most stereotypical kidnapper van ever pulls into his driveway.
Tim, at that point in time, had yet to actually know what kidnapper stereotypes were, so he thought the van was just ugly instead of suspicious. He also had a surprising lack of stranger danger talks from... anybody. His best guess is that every nanny just assumed either his parents or the nanny before them had given him the talk and left it at that. It's not like he was out and about to be talking to strangers in the first place.
So when a strange man walked up to the front door and said, "Hey, kiddo! Your parents asked us to bring you to the park. Why don't you get in the van?" Tim had simply gotten in the van.
"This feels too easy," one of them murmurs to the driver. "Where's the nanny?"
Tim speaks up, "He got fired. He's, um-" He tries to remember the word his mom used when they fired him. "Stupid." Close enough.(Or: Tim gets kidnapped and things spiral just a little)

Summary
Slowly— more slowly than he probably should— Tim lets himself glance to the hallway leading away from the door. Sure enough, there's a large blood trail, splattered over the walls and floor, that leads right to one of Riddler's henchmen.
Tim hesitantly makes his way over, pressing a finger to their neck to feel for a pulse.
Nothing.
He readjusts his fingers to check again.
And again.
A third time.
The result doesn't change, no matter how many times he moves his fingers to try at a different angle or location or pressure.

Summary
Tim mimes talking at Tam, rolling his eyes as Ra's drones on. "I did come to see you," he lies as soon as the man gets all of his— whatever the hell he was saying out of the way. "You showed me your tigers. Why do you have tigers? Is it just about keeping wild animals or is it, like, an emotional thing? You seem more like a lion guy. Or maybe a panther."
There's a long silence from Ra's, and Tim uses the opportunity to look over some business email or another. Honestly horrible deal, but he's tempted to entertain it just to fuck with— Tim squints at the name on the email— Mr. Spencestar. Hm.
"You did not come to see me," Ra's says finally. "You have not even left Gotham—"
"Oh, no," Tim fights down a bout of laughter. "Are you alright? Your memory is usually better than this."

Summary
“What’s wrong this time?” he breathes into the crook of Christian’s neck, arching into the nails that dig into his back.
“I don’t know,” Christian tells him. Every single time.
The song and dance is exactly the same, and Sam’s not even sure he minds anymore.
It’s a kind of devotion Sam hasn’t felt before, exploring Christian’s body like this. He has a map of every scar, mole, and divot tucked away somewhere in the back of his mind. He could recognize this body from any angle and any distance. Sam feels almost high with it. Devotion, maybe. Loyalty. Like a dog told to heel.
Collar me, he wants to beg. Leash me. Chain me up and point my teeth at your enemies, I’ll come back covered in blood.
An unfinished snippet of something I was writing for my OCs 👍

Summary
Jason focuses everything he has on taking deep, even breaths. His neighbors' argument heats up again— never loud enough for him to make out what they're saying, but always loud enough to hear— and his phone buzzes against the linoleum floor of his kitchen.
The neighbors on the left have a teenage son who's playing games of some kind. His voice gets high and loud, screaming in excitement and rage at every victory or loss or whatever-the-fuck it is he's talking about. It always seems to happen just as he tunes in to the argument happening upstairs enough to understand what they're saying.
"If she—"
"Why would you say that?!"
"I need a healer—"

Summary
Tim wakes up under about a hundred and thirty pounds of Canadian Timber wolf.
It's not exactly a new experience. Not really. Jason spends a lot more time as a wolf than he does a man, shoving Tim around the apartment and rubbing his gigantic head all over Tim's face and neck. The times he's human are spent feeding Tim and trying to coax him into transforming.
(Tim has no idea what Jason is even talking about. Aside from the fact that the man can turn into a giant wolf, Tim— can't. He doesn't know where Jason even got the idea that he could.)
(It's better than having to fight him off, though. Tim isn't going to correct Jason on the only thing keeping those jaws from snapping around his throat.)
Or. I felt a little silly with it. Tim and Jason time

Summary
Dick's nails dig into the leather of Bruce's chair, jaw clenched.
Red Hood has made no secret of his hatred for Robin. Dick knows what a man like that will do when he gets his hands on the littlest bird.
(He's lived through it twice before.)
(Slade, at least, hadn't killed the bird when it was in his grasp. He cannot say the same for Joker, and he won't put his trust in Red Hood to be more like the former.)

Summary
"Holy shit."
Jason doesn't mean to say it out loud, but— he knows that name. Knew it? Knows.
Because Tim Drake is the same kid who gave him a fake name on a rooftop his first year as Robin. The same kid with a too-large camera around his neck and stars in his eyes even through the obvious panic.
(He has to bite his tongue to stop himself from blurting out the name Alvin Draper and giving everything away. It's almost physically painful not to ask if he's majoring in photography or some other art bullshit like Jason. Is he okay? Did he stop running around on Gotham roofs in the middle of the night?)

Summary
(Catherine's smile is soft. Her hands are the same way, gentle as they card through Jason's hair. She loves him like this, when she's sober enough to remember what love is.)
(She loves him when she's high, too, but it's the kind of love that makes Jason's skin crawl. She begs him for forgiveness, crying and telling him she loves him, until they kick in enough for her to pass out.)
But it's not Catherine who pulls him from his second grave.

Summary
Jason transforms for the first time at just five years old.
His mom— Catherine, his real mom— had been too high to panic, but she certainly hadn't handled it well, either. She locked him away in his room every full moon until he learned how to control his shifts, praying the neighbors were too drunk or afraid of the cops to bother calling in the mournful howls coming from the worn-down apartment next to them.
It had felt like a curse for a long time. Something to be locked away and buried so deep he could never find it again.
(It had been a curse until he needed to make rent or pay hospital bills every time his mom overdosed. Nobody thinks the weird, mangy puppy on the streets is going to steal from them the way they do when it's a starving kid.)
(People fed him more when he was a dog, too.)

Summary
"Hold position," Batman's growl comes low over the comms, cutting through the loud, worried voices of his siblings. "Nightwing is en route. Red Robin— find Crane. Robin— with me."
A flurry of voices call out affirmatives, and Jason lets himself slump against the wall. He can already feel the effects of the fear toxin, crawling up his throat and pressing deep into his lungs. Choking, freezing—
(Burning, like being caught in a warehouse while the fire from a bomb washes over him and the smoke fills his lungs. Like rubble crushing his ribs to dust and puncturing his lungs. Like a manic laugh and Sheila Haywood's muffled pleas for help while Jason's body was broken over and over under a bloodied crowbar.)

Summary
He trips over his own feet in the rush to check himself out in the mirror again. Like he thought, the crook in his nose is gone. He's missing other things, though, too— a tooth that chipped pretty bad during movie night with Dick, a few of the fainter scars on his chest, and—
Jason ruffles the hair by his left ear and then snaps his fingers. The sound is clear again in a way it hasn't been in years.
(That should have been his first clue. He lost a good portion of his hearing during that final confrontation with Bruce— between the gunshots, explosion, and the fact that his helmet was off, Jason had never been able to fully repair the damage done to his ears.)
(Everything is so loud now.)
or Jason travels back in time and wakes up in the Lazarus pit. Things go a little silly from there

Summary
Beth— the name she gives him. Not a legal one, but not her street name, either— thanks him with tears in her eyes and ushers her daughter out the door before it gets dark enough to be dangerous. As they're leaving, Jason can hear her ask a question. Just one.
"Mommy?" her little voice pipes up as they reach the doors. "Is Red Hood Santa?"
He laughs it off with Roy later that night, making a large batch of soup to pass out to all of the girls next time he's out, but the question bounces around in his head. It stalks him on patrol, echoing in his ears every time he overhears a hushed argument between parents who can't afford to have a Christmas for their kids again this year. Every time he hears a kid on the street telling one of the older kids that they asked for a new pair of socks for Christmas.
He breaks.
AKA, Jason plays Santa for a month. He's also in love with Roy Harper. The two things are unrelated

"Richard looks at me," Damian says, voice sharp and even just like his mother taught him. "When I speak to him, that is. I would appreciate it if you afforded me the same courtesy."
His father looks up at that, and Damian tries not to think about the way his lower lip is starting to tremble. He isn't a baby— he's twelve, and his kill-count is in the triple digits. It's just…

Summary
Bruce will never claim to be a good man or a good father. He gave those things up years and years ago— left on the asphalt of a bloodied alleyway, decorated with his mother's pearls and the smell of gunpowder.
He would like to say, though, that he tries.
He's come a long way since taking in Dick— only twenty, just eleven years older than Dick had been at the time and far too young to be a father— and he likes to think he's learned a lot about taking care of traumatized children in that time.
All of his fights with Dick— as horrible and explosive as they were— had taught him something. Even if that something was that he doesn't know how to say I love you without making it sound like I don't trust you.

Summary
“Is this Roy’s shirt?” Tim asks when he walks into the kitchen. Jason is furiously mixing something in a bowl– it looks like a batter of some kind, but Tim doesn’t know shit about cooking or baking or whatever else it is Jason does in his free time.
The only sound in the apartment for a solid minute is the clang, clang, clang of the spoon against the bowl as Jason mixes, knuckles white around the handle.
“Yeah,” he grunts, banging the spoon against the rim of the bowl to get the excess whatever off. “‘s Roy’s. Sit down.”
Tim does. He curls his knees back up to his chest, feet on the rickety dining room chair. The apartment is dark for the most part– only lit up with the overhead stove light and the flickering, orange glow of a busted streetlight outside the kitchen window. It paints Jason’s face in dark colors, and Tim can easily see the bags under his eyes and the sunken look of his cheeks.
AKA Tim goes undercover. Jason isn't happy to find out. (The author has a bad time, but it gets better thanks to the power of Projection).

Summary
He steals another piece of the bread before turning back to the stove to remove one from the pan, put more dough in. Damian thinks silently, still leaning against the counter and frowning at his food. Dick knows how not to push for answers by now—
(he hates to admit that he knows Damian more than he knows any of his other family members, anymore. Damian was all he had for a long time— Bruce missing and presumed dead, Tim MIA, Jason busy with his crime lord things, and everybody else grieving or presumed dead or out of the country. It's hard not to bond under circumstances like that. It doesn't make him a bad brother.)
— and patiently waits Damian out.
AKA, Dick and Damian bond over food and talk about Tim's experiences with overstimulation. Damian comes to some conclusions

Summary
"You would've loved the tech they had," Peter continues. "You would have— it was pretty behind ours in a lot of ways, but it was so much cooler in a lot of others."
Ned laughs. "Oh, man," he says. "How different is it?"
He tries not to think about his WE-made and bat-improved phone, tucked firmly into the back pocket of his jeans with the speaker on.
"Different," he chokes out. "I had to get used to a whole new OS, man. They don't even— they don't even have Windows over there. It's crazy. And no—" he cuts himself off. No Stark Industries, he wants to say. The first thing I looked for when I showed up. "The phones weren't as sleek. And Gotham was sort of like— like something right out of a comic book."
Ned hums around the final bite of his food, leaning back on his palms. "Did you get any cool autographs?"
And Peter—
He laughs.
