“Hmm, let me see,” Ryan murmurs. He spins the book toward himself and tries to read for a second only to realize that it’s not written in English but Altean. “Wow, okay. I don’t think I can read that,” he says with a laugh. He raises his hands in surrender, before spinning the book back to face Hunk.
“It literally only says ‘sweetener’ but nothing else? I thought instructions of how to build, ignite and fire blasts of energy from an old Altean journal with frequencies that are seemingly impossible to replicate was hard, but this… this really takes the cake.”
Ryan stifles a giggle at the pun and Hunk rolls his eyes. “Yes, I get what I did there. Very funny.”
“You know if you didn’t like space or cooking that much, you would be a great comedian.”
“Yeah, and you would be the only one as my audience.”
“At least you have me cheering you on at every show across the universe.”

The Pangini want to use him to see whether the paladins, as predators, are capable of bringing peace to the universe. Hunk is forced to confront some of his worst memories, which stirs up a bunch of feelings he thought he'd laid to rest. As he battles his anxiety and insecurities in the days following his return from captivity, his friends set out to reassure him that he will always be more than "the fat kid."

Summary
Hunk has always been prone to the occasional low mood, but he's currently in a sad spell that's worse than any he'd experienced before. He's lost interest in projects and cooking, the latter largely due to the fact that his sense of taste is so dull that he can't really experience flavor anymore. One good thing is that Keith is finally back from being away with the Blade of Marmora, but for some reason that isn't enough to bring Hunk out of his sad spell this time. But Keith decides that he can't stand seeing Hunk like this anymore, and tries to help him feel better.
