His face flushes red as the heat dries him off. The transformation washes over him and he leaps up, waving away the steam clouding the room.
Rikki's smirking at him as she evaporates the rest of the mop water. "So, first day back, huh? How's the tail working out for you?"
"It sucks," Lewis sighs, plucking a paper towel off of his shirt and letting it fall to the floor with the others.
She nods sharply, grin never leaving her face. "Yep. Better get used to it!" -

He hates this part.
Loathes the bitter anticipation.
The water will be freezing. Grabbing at him as it soaks his clothes, pulling him deeper into the dark. Then the change will take hold, and with it, what he hates the most- the loss of feeling, agency, humanity. It's a betrayal. A reminder that this body is not his- not in the way he needs.

Summary
An AU in which Rex is [actually] a secret weapon working for Providence known as the Generator. It ends up somewhat becoming a school fic after he meets Noah because I want Six and Holiday to have to pretend to be his parents so he can be enrolled. Also have you seen how happy this kid got after baking a cake? He deserves it. Oh and Noah doesn't work with Providence in this AU because I said so and White has no clue Six and Holiday are sneaking Rex into school every day because that's funnier to me.
Basically, this is a collection of shenanigans that occur due to Rex trying to be a normal teenager while still working under Providence as the cure. Secret identity, let's go! This kid doesn't know what the word subtlety means (that's what makes it so fun to write).

Hiromi sat up from her reclining position next to Nino, pushing her hat from her face back onto her head and squinting at the horizon. "Who's that?"
Emma and Nino quit arguing and turned to look, to see a lone silhouette staggering towards their camp.
Emma was interested because Hiromi was interested- the woman had given them a thumbs down for every other visitor without even looking up from her reclined position. She'd been right every time, of course. Bandits, all of them.
Nino was interested because the stranger was wearing a full body suit, complete with a ventilator, goggles, and a wide-brimmed sun hat.

The girls’ big secret is a major part of all of their lives now, but none of them realised how much it was all taking a toll on Lewis. One night, Lewis heads to Mako Island to do some experiments and tests, still desperate for answers; and his life changes forever. Lewis should have known it was a terrible idea to go to Mako Island alone on the night of a full moon.
