People often took Occam’s Razor and swung it like a club, inevitably ending up on the wrong side. It’s what the public had done with the blood running in streams every morning, and what kept Vale in some semblance of peace as more and more people vanished in the night. People assumed gangs, or murderers, or, as was increasingly the case, Faunus.
…Jaune only wished it were that simple.
Instead, here he was, digging himself miles deep into an unforgiving grave. Hoping against hope that, if life was as much a game as it seemed, that this one had a happy ending.

Jaune had forgotten, somewhere between the first decade and the fifth, what another person felt like.
He remembered people. Their faces, their voices, the friends he was still trying to get home to. But warmth, weight, breath, a heartbeat beneath skin... those were things the Ever After couldn't give him.
Then Team RWBY came back, and suddenly every hug makes his thoughts stop, every casual touch lingers long after it ends, and Jaune is beginning to suspect that fifty years in the Ever After did something very strange to his nerves.
His skin is being weird.
That's definitely all it is.
