"Not that. Just… the guy seems too good to be true, right? Wings and a shield? Come on."
"Uh, is that why your eyes are like glued to the screen whenever he's on?" Kate says. "Is that why you call him Captain Tight Ass?"
"He's a goddamn show-off, and you know it. Tight ass or not."
Just then Sam snorts, real loud, grabs his coffee and suffers a horribly controlled laugh on his way out the door.

This consisted of: watching classic 2000s TV sitcoms (thanks Sam) every Saturday night, bickering about who would take out the trash on garbage day, and having their legs placed a bit too close to each other under the table when eating breakfast every morning. So, everything was fine. Perfectly fine."

Chapter 5: Sometimes Bucky can't believe the worst luck turned into the best.
Chapter 6: Sam talks to birds and Bucky pretends he doesn't support Sam's hobbies. (He does.)
Chapter 7: An accident leaves Sam able to talk to birds. Unfortunately they've got an attitude and an agenda... to see Sam and Bucky kiss.
Chapter 8: Bucky can't sleep, so he thinks of Sam. Canon compliant to the couch scene in ep 5.
Chapter 9: Bucky helps Sam be still, for just a little while.Bucky started to notice that after missions, Sam could never stand still. He fidgeted with a restlessness Bucky knew too well. The fight just wouldn’t leave, wouldn’t settle.

“I’ll be there.” Sam said after a moment of silence.
“Better be.” And Bucky hung up, a silence far too loud filling the void of Sam’s voice. His daughter was soon to be born down the hall, and his husband was time zones away, not here. Not in his arms, not dozing off on his shoulder. He wasn’t here. He should be able to hold his daughter, be able to hear Sam’s voice, clear and present, as they held her for the first time.
Or; Sam's on a mission the day his daughter was born. Bucky's just trying to hold it together.

One second, Bucky was all over Sam.
He was nipping at Sam’s jaw.
He had one hand down in Sam’s back pocket, squeezing Sam’s ass.
He was pressing close to Sam as he was about to finally start what they had only just begun.
One second, Sam was overwhelmed with distracting, devastatingly raw emotions, needs.
The next, Bucky was all the way on the other side of the kitchen.
Just.
Leaning on the island counter like he was totally normal and that was how human beings leaned on counters.
It very much wasn’t what leaning on a counter was supposed to look like. Sam didn’t know why it wasn’t. But he knew by looking at Bucky that it really wasn’t.
Sam didn’t have time to ask Bucky what the fuck just happened and why they weren’t continuing their silent sexy times agreement right this instant.
No.
Not when Sam heard the door open.
“Sarah? Sam? Anybody?” called a voice that Sam knew well, “Oh – dang it, did I put my visit on the wrong day on the family google calendar again?"

Sam grinned.

Sam shook his hand.
There was a softness to the silk.
Sam snorted.

“So, the way to get Bucky to ruin his food is to get Sam in his line of sight,” said Joaquín and Bucky jumped because he had no clue when the fella appeared next to him, “I should keep that in mind for the next time the Avengers have a holiday baking competition.”
“The steaks will still taste good. I got them off in time,” said Bucky.
Bucky wasn’t going to tell Joaquín how close they were to not being edible. He wasn’t going to give this fella the satisfaction.
“Don’t bully him too badly. Once, I asked him a vague question about Sam and he started choking on his own spit,” said Sarah, “I was wondering what euphemisms the obituary would use to hide the fact that Bucky died due to unrequited feelings for my brother.”
“Can you both stop that?” grumbled Bucky as he picked up the bowl of horseradish dill butter, “We’re just friends, okay? Roommates.”
Bucky, unable to stop himself, snatched another glance at Sam.
