Summary
Buck participates in the Stair Climb in full gear in honor of those lost on 9/11. The only one to do so from the main 'team' of A-shift at the 118. As he climbs he thinks of what has happened in the years since he has been a firefighter and just the past year. He makes a decision that deep down he knew he was going to make anyway.
I wrote this while listening to Alan Jackson's song 'Where were you (when the world stopped turning)' in honor of the fact that it has been 25 years since it stopped turning for so many people. Personally, I was at home taking a gap year between high school and college when my brother who lived in Chicago called to wake my mother and I to turn on the tv. I turned it on just as the first tower fell.

And, just like that, the nerves disappeared, replaced by something far lighter and giddier. “Well -” Buck let out a relieved laugh. “That – that's awesome.”
Except Bobby didn’t look relieved. “Yeah, maybe not. They gave me the option to transfer you.” Buck’s stomach dropped. “They understood how I might not want you back after everything you put us through,” Bobby added. And then – “I accepted her offer.”

In the aftermath of trying to sue the city and the Department and his own friends, Buck finds himself forcefully transferred to a new station. His life may very well change forever because of it.

The lawsuit is done, Buck is back at work, it'll take time, but everything will return to normal eventually, right? The firehouse crew is hurt, and Buck is struggling. He starts to spiral, going back to his old habits, with no one there to see or catch him. How long can he last on the downward trajectory? Or will someone notice before it's too late?
i.e Buck struggles with his mental health and relationships following a lawsuit against his fire department.
I'm bad at summaries. Just your typical post-lawsuit fic. Updates once a week, either Friday or Saturday.

Eddie's hand was on him, finger pointing at his face. Bobby's hands in the air. Two people. Too close. Too loud. Hands everywhere.
Buck's vision tunnelled to a pinpoint. His body registered threats from multiple directions—Eddie in front, Bobby beside him, both of them with their hands raised, both of them angry, both of them *too close*.
The room tilted. Sound became muffled, distant. His father's voice overlapped with Bobby's. Connor's hands overlapped with Eddie's. Past and present collapsed into each other until Buck couldn't tell which was real.
*Hands coming up. Voices raised. Nowhere to run. Surrounded. Trapped. It's happening again. It's always happening again.*
But Buck's brain didn't see Eddie and Bobby.
Buck's brain saw violence coming from everywhere.Or what happens when following the lawsuit they refuse to forgive Buck and cause him to have a dissociative episode, they realise Buck has been hurt before and so begins the healing journey for them all. This will be a long slow burn fully exploring trauma and recovery in depth, no quick fixes. There is reference to abuse in the past to Buck as a child and domestic violence too so please read with caution.

Bobby Nash wanted to be angry, but what he really felt was worry. Buck was always reckless, rebellious, and never took care of himself, which terrified Bobby. He wanted to protect him, not knowing if the real reason was because he saw Buck in the little boy he lost years ago, or perhaps the mark that looked so much like his baby son's—though he knew it could just be a coincidence, because that's how things happened: coincidences. Buck couldn't possibly be Robin Nash.
