In 1920s Nova Scotia, Canada, war-scarred ex-medic John Watson is cloistered away in a repressed and regimented household, smothered by his well-meaning but infantilizing family.
But after getting some terrible news regarding his heart, John decides to throw caution to the wind and leave his isolated and depressing life behind to serve as hospice carer for Mike Stanford.
As John skillfully nurses Mike through his final days, he also begins going on excursions with Mike's strange backwoods menagerie of friends - adoring the freedom of living life after being so long hidden away. The scandalized Watsons all think he's well and truly lost his mind, but John feels useful again, and is nightmare-free for the first time since the war. This works wonderfully for a glorious summer, right up until Mike passes on.
To save John from having to return to his dismal existence, Mike's mysterious friend Sherlock Holmes offers John an opportunity: come to remote Baker Island as Holmes' live in man of all work. This arrangement is understood to be temporary after John tells Sherlock of his heart condition...but the time they spend together on Baker Island will upend both John and Sherlock's lives.

It should have been a simple contract - find out what was making the odd noises from inside the cavern near the waterfront, and let the fishermen know it was safe to use those waters again. Instead? Lambert was not prepared for this.
