    "Curare," Jackie had called it, grinning madly as she dipped the empty cartridge into the bottle with a pair of tongs. She'd twirled it in the air, letting it coat the casing, an even glaze. "Traded this secret for a few bottles off the top shelf." She chuckled as she added, "And then went and got the bottles back too."

    "Not a given," Roach had said, strapping the bags of English blood wherever he could find room for them, "but you're likely to survive it."

    Izzy had shaken his head. "Assuming he shoots me where your bags are."

    "Exactly!"

    "And assuming an empty cartridge doesn't wound as badly as a bullet would."

    "Well, yes."

    "And assuming the blood dilutes the poison enough to not immediately fucking murder me when it hits my skin."

    Roach's face had done a complicated wiggle, somehow managing to smile and frown all at once. "Theoretically," he'd said.

    "What do you think?" Izzy'd asked, swiveling his eyes to Jim.

    They steadied their breathing. "Viejo," Jim had said, meeting Izzy's tired eyes, "I will bury you today, but not for the last time."

    Wow, that finale sure was thirty minutes long, huh? Methinks that calls for a fix-it fuckery.
