"You're scared," Harry accused, frustration edging into his voice. "Scared that if you let me back in, things might not be the same. But I can't live with this distance between us."
Louis clenched his jaw, battling against the vulnerability bubbling beneath the surface. "It's not that simple. We can't just pick up where we left off. We are not teenagers anymore."
Undeterred, Harry closed the gap, breath mingling with Louis's. "Maybe it doesn't have to be the same. Maybe it can be better."
Louis's resolve wavered, his gaze softening, but fear quickly returned to his eyes. "I can't risk it."
In the charged silence, Harry's gaze fixated on Louis's lips, an unspoken understanding passing between them.
"Harry…" Louis warned, his voice a barely audible plea, their breaths quickening, anger transforming into a potent undercurrent of desire.
Louis turned to face him again, their noses brushing. He looked up through dark lashes, deep blue eyes wide and shining.
"Tell me to go, and I swear I won't..." Harry's breath hitched as their eyes locked, the undeniable physical pull between them erasing the words that had driven them apart. "Please, tell me to go," he begged once more.

The first thing Louis does is take him under his wing. From there it’s nine months of slow-burning romance, the past catching up to them, turning into the human puppy pile that is OT5 and a lot of feelings until, of course, reaching the finish line.

Summary

Or the one where Louis is a spoiled rich kid who is ignored by his entire family, who's friends only use him as a means for drugs and no one believes he's worth any more than just that. Harry Styles is a first year university student who's just moved to Doncaster for their theatre program who just happens to get the short straw when he's partnered with Louis for Bio Lab. Surprisingly, Zayn’s the one who replies. “Well, we can do whatever we want, right?” he asks tentatively. “There’s nobody else calling the shots this time.”
They’re sitting around one of the bigger tables, and a stunned silence falls over the room as they think about Zayn’s words. It’s just them. No execs, no Simon, no management telling them what to do. They’ve all experienced more freedom - to varying degrees - in their solo careers, but the idea of having control over what they do in the band is new. One Direction has never been theirs.
And now it is.
Thought it was about time I had a go at a reunion fic. UPDATE - this sat unfinished for a loooooong time, but I added a chapter today and am working on the rest!
