Zoochosis refers to the patterns of behavior noted across many species in response to prolonged isolation within a cramped, unchanging environment. It often presents in the form of repetitive movements or vocalizations ranging from benign to self-destructive. Frequently performed without the subjects input nor knowledge.
Many humans have theories regarding widespread zoochosis symptoms amongst sentient life on their planet. Some mentioning crowding zoochosis, in which said symptoms presented due to overcrowded conditions and a lack of dynamic environment.
Eridians did not. The hum of the planet itself was never far from perception even in the space elevator. And the sound of other Eridians was a constant, ever changing comfort. No one from Erid was ever truly alone.

Adrian is, to put it bluntly, very upfront. And even a little bit rude sometimes. But they are never mean. When Rocky and I started teaching them English, them and I started joking back and forth a bit. Their humour is dry (like a lot of Eridians, I have found) but they always know how to make me laugh. They’re caring and smart and—I’m getting off track.
To put it shortly, I am…attracted to Adrian. This realisation came shortly after I realised a looming crush on Rocky. How embarrassing. Nothing about us is compatible. I would die outside of my ‘enclosure’ (for lack of a better word) and they would die a slow and painful death inside of mine. Without a protective suit on, I mean.

“I’m sorry…” She whispers, her head dropping deeper into the scarf and sleeping bag, obscuring her face more. A few moments pass and Marcille’s voice cracks the already fragile silence.“Chil?”
“What?”
“Could you…climb in here with me?”
“W-What? Why?”
“I…It’ll warm me up faster, I think.” It’s like her lips are moving of their own accord, bent on finding a way to touch him more, smell him more. Just to witness his presence skin-to-skin. “Please?”
You’d think it was Chilchuck’s own idea by how easily he acquiesces to her request. Within seconds he’s out of his sleeping bag and in hers but makes a great effort that their bodies aren’t too close together.
“Don’t do anything weird.” He warns as he tries to settle into a comfortable position on his back.
“Okay…” Like she’s wanted, his smell is directly wafting into her nostrils and as more of it permeates her senses and mind, the more euphoric the relief is. “Chil, can I…can I ask you a question real quick?”
He groans before answering. “What is it?”
“Can I sniff you?”

All at once, Grace's heart feels like it's shattering. Adrian and Grace had many heart to heart conversations here in the moonlight next to the water, but they had never talked about consent and bodily autonomy in reference to Rocky's exuberance. It was here, actually, that Grace had spilled to Adrian the true purpose of how he ended on Hail Mary, even before he told Rocky.
Adrian was so steady, so logical and calm and confident, that Grace had felt safe from the moment they met and Adrian had felt comfortable enough to curl a claw around his hand.
It was this safety and comfort that led to a harebrained idea. Now that he thought it, he couldn't unthink it. He… wanted to kiss Adrian. He wanted his first kiss with another life form to be Adrian. He wanted to feel safe in his body and choices and know his boundaries would be respected.
