Summary
The first time Daud met Corvo-
Well, it was the first time, was the thing, though they'd been moving in the same circles for more than a year. Daud hadn't even known his name at the time, though that was as much down to Corvo's paranoia as Daud's disinterest. The Ghost, as they called him, was something of a cipher: a supposedly-sorcerous thief who had no problems targeting Dunwall's wealthiest citizens but otherwise largely kept to himself. Daud had sent Billie off to do the usual vetting, she'd come back with the news that the Ghost belonged to the coven recently settled down at the waterfront, and that had been that.
Faced with a difficult job, Daud turns to an outside contractor with a reputation for getting things done. His mother told him never to trust a witch, but what about a witch's familiar?

It is said that his mother was a witch from one of the archipelagos off the Pandyssian coast, taken captive by pirates venturing far from the Isles. According to the legend, by the time the ship returned, the captain was dead and the witch controlled the crew, with Daud still a shadow in her belly.

Does he look so different? So foreign? The only thing his mother ever told him about the man who sired him was that he was Serkonan, and the duskiness of his skin used to be enough of a giveaway. “Native,” Daud replies shortly. “Returning. It’s been a while.”
Daud returns to the place he once called home.

The only thing that kept Corvo from leaping right out of his chair at the sudden tap against his stomach was the glint of Daud's eyes fixed on him despite his face being turned to the rest of the guests. Corvo squinted back at him. Had he thrown something under the table? Surreptitiously searching his own lap would attract far too much attention while Alden was talking to him.
Then something closed around his knee and yanked, just lightly enough not to pull him forward on his chair. Oh, the bastard. Daud, as if he could read the realization on Corvo's face, gave him a long, slow blink and smirked predaciously.

“Just this,” Corvo said, reaching behind his neck to the hood of his coat, and pulled a mask up and over his head.

Corvo hasn’t stopped thinking about the one who killed her. The one who took away his daughter, took over his life, took everything he had. A greedy man he was, the infamous Knife of Dunwall, taking and taking and taking. Come and gone in a flash, the whole city falling apart in his wake, burying Corvo in the rubble. More blood, always more blood. Corvo feels like he'll forever be drowning in it.
Daud hasn’t stopped thinking about the one who tried to save her. The look on the bodyguard‘s face has been burned into his eyes, following him everywhere he goes. Death clings to him with cold hands: Corvo Attano, the ever-stoic Royal Protector, turned into a vicious animal by Daud’s hand. Daud regrets so much it just might kill him. He can’t wait for that day to come.
Their paths cross, then intertwine, and nothing remains as it was.
